Cat owners..a question... UPDATE! GREAT PRODUCT!

The Litter Robot arrived 10 days ago, and we set it up right away. No one would go near it at first, but before long they started to use it. I have one cat that I was concerned about, he is over the 15 lb recommended weight (WELL over) but he was the first one to use the new litterbox! He pees in the corner of the box, and always peed over the side and on the floor. YUCK. Not an issue at all now.
This is the greatest thing I have ever purchased! All 5 cats are using it now, and it is so nice to not smell "litter box" when you come into that room, even if they recently used it. Very easy to set up and very easy to change. I am going to save some money (it came to $360 with shipping) and order another one early next year. I highly recommend it.

That's great! I was just thinking about this box yesterday since I'm considering getting one. One question, that I think you've answered, is how smelly is it once it's been raked? In other words, how airtight is the stuff that is in the tray?

How often do you have to empty out the tray?

I'd love one upstairs in our hall bathroom since it's a trek to empty it into the garage garbage can, but there is not an outlet on the litterbox side of the bathroom. So unless we put an outlet there, we'd be using it in our main floor laundry room, which would be good, anyway, since it gets a lot of use and gets smelly easily.

It is really neat, there is no rake. It actually flips the globe over, and separates the clean stuff from the clumps, then it stores the clean stuff, and empties the clumps. I have not noticed any odor, except when I open the drawer to change the bag. Never have to scoop or touch the nasty stuff! Just change the old bag for a new one, and tie the old one and throw it away. I use regular garbage bags. Nothing special to buy.

I may not be the best person to ask this of as I have 5 cats! But I have changed it every 4th day so far, and that seems fine. I do have one cat that doesn't come upstairs except at night, so I guess only 4 of them use it regularly.

I think it has so little odor you could use it just about anywhere. I highly recommend it!

OK, I'm ordering it today! The final straw was not our cats, but I found one of my dogs with his nose in the litterbox last night eating kitty cookies. YUCK. And he's not the one that I've seen doing that before.

I have to tell you, I forgot to shut the door to the room that it is in, and Libbie (our black lab) came running out with her nose and paws covered in litter! I was SO glad to know that she might have gone "treasure hunting" but got nothing for her efforts! YUCK! Needless to say, I will be closing that door from now on! (all our doors have Kitty escape hatches in the bottoms so the cats can come and go as they please, but the puppy can't!)

I have one ginormous cat and a kitten. The monster cat hardly ever needed a scoop between cleanings. The kitten poops more than any animal I have ever shared my home with! She also steals humand food, something no cat of mine has ever stooped to. She is a Maine Coon and I wonder if that is the reason. SHe is adorable but she's a pig! Lol

I would say with 4 you are better off not using disposables.

I had a main coon many years ago. I just hope you realize they are BIG cats. Ours was 20 pounds easily. But don't fret, they are gentle giants. We used to vacuum him, seriously. Also he would eat all sorts of human food. He once ate broccoli and used to love spagetti.

I think I might have to show my mom the Litter Robot. She hates the smell of the litter box and I am always cleaning it and getting tired of it. With 3 cats it can get dirty pretty fast. Maybe I will convince her that its worth the money. I mean she bought one of the cats an outside bungalo for over $200. This would be a better investment IMO.

Otto's Doll, what kind of litter are you using for your multiple cat household? We're using Scoop Away (because that's what Costco carries), but it needs to be changed out so often. Our cats mainly use one litterbox and I understand that's a lot of stuff, but I think I need to try something better for multiple cats.

I only use the Sam's Club brand. It comes in 40 pound buckets for $8.64 and works wonderfully. With 5 cats I need something that works really well. If you don't have a Sam's Club, see if Costco has their own brand and try that. I was happily surprised with Sam's brand, and have used it exclusively for at least 4 years.

We do have a Sam's Club and I shop there, too. I've seen their brand, but I've been leery to try it, not knowing how well it works. I'll give it a try!
