Cat Help!!! Please!!!

I am not dismissing the advice or ignoring the offer of help.

I went to the site and read the information. I do not need help calling around. I have a phone and have called around.

See above post I just spoke to a local vet about this situation.

I appreciate all the advice I have received. I do not however appreciate being judged a bad person because I did not and cannot afford to have my cats spayed.

Would you prefer I not feed my kids for a week so I can spay a cat. Yes I should have thought of this before hand but what is done is done and I have learned from my mistake. Our money situtation went down hill after we got the two cats. The kittens I never planned to have spayed I planned to find them a good home and let their owner take care of that.

I would prefer that people be responsible pet owners but whatever.

The OP is dismissing any help offered and making excuses for the situation.

Yes, this is the most irresponsible thing I have heard here for a long time. (I should have clarified I meant on the DIS, not in RL)

As to the OP, I apologize for being harsh. This is a subject near and dear to my heart as my cats are the result of irresponsible breeding and people not getting their cats altered. (all seven of them)

If you will state your city and state, I and other DISers may be able to get the help you need for your cats. You may not be getting in touch with all of the resources available to you. (we are not asking for your personal information, only trying to find resources in your area so that you can contact them)

Of course not, I understand completely. You are doing what you can to take care of the situation. You are in contact with your vet and are doing what they suggest.

You had no idea he would play Captain Run Amok for a few days and upset the balance of the kitty kingdom.

Did you call any local/regional pet rescue organizations? These are different than the local humane society.

Accidents happen and I would not judge you because you could not afford to have them fixed. But by your own words you said you intended that the female have kittens. And still - while it is not a choice I would make - that is your choice. Where I am having a hard time with is your desire to get rid of the problem that you created because it is not working out the way you want.

Sorry I did not mean to sound ugly. I guess the money issue is a sore subject with me.

We do normally keep the cats in the house but he got out and came up missing for three days.

We cannot afford to have them fixed and yes I have checked all the vets and the humane society around here and in surrounding areas and no one offers a discount on getting them spayed. The cost for her is over 150.00 and for him is over 100.00. They have to have some sort of test before they will spay them.

Again I do appreciate the advice but telling me to get them fixed is just not an option.

Also like I said before he slept with her and the kittens and even bathed the kittens before he came up missing. So what is the differnce now. He was not neutered then either so why does she think he is a threat to them now.

We do plan to keep two kittens and keep them in the house at all times till we can afford to have them spayed.

But would it be better if I just took the whole lot of them to the pound? I hate to do that especially the deaf male cat. I feel sure no one would adopt him.

Right now we are keeping one of them in the garage and the other in the house but it is hard to keep up with who is in and who is out as I do have kids and they run in and out all day long.

Actually, you would be surprised! The cats with issues generally go first. You know why? Because people like me go in there, fall in love, know that I can take care of a cat with any issue and adopt it. I work for a vet, and he said if he could take a leg off every cat, they would all get adopted. He did not say that to be mean but he said that to make a point. Even my DS-10 wanted to adopt a three legged cat!

One last post, then I am out:

1) Please separate the cats so they don't hurt each other. It needs to be done until at least the male is neutered.

2) Please take the offers here for help in finding resources in your area for the cats and kittens

3) Please find homes for all of the cats. Seriously, basic care does included neutering. I am sure you love them, sometimes showing your love is giving them the opportunity for what they need that you cannot provide.

4) All of the cats/kittens need checked for FIV/Felv, and vaccinations. They are at risk because they have been exposed to an unaltered male who has been outside and fighting with unknown animals.

I have talked with the vet and I do have the cats seperated. I would not intentionally put either of them in danger.

We have a home for the momma and we are looking for a home for the kittens.

I have called several vets in my area and ask specifically if there was any organization that could help defer the cost of having my cats spayed. They all tell me NO. I think if anyone would know about such an organization the local vets would. No they don't offer it but they also would not care who is paying as long as they got payed. I just think if there is an organization that would do this in our area at least one of the vets would know about it.

I have been and still am working on getting this problem took care of the best way possible for all involved including the cats.

Thanks again for all the advice. This has been a very enlightening experience for me.

Honestly, that's not true at all. They very easily may not know. You need to contact some shelters/rescues/humane societies.

I have contacted the humane society and another animal rescue society in our area. I am still contacting places but I think by the time I find some help I probably will have the money saved up.

My daughter volunteers at the humane shelter and trust me there is no shortage of kittens so really confused on why you WANTED this cat pregnant and now are looking for homes for all of them? Didn't you say you took these two cats in to keep them from going to the pound?

I'm sorry you asked for help and people are ragging on you, but to so many of us you are being a totally irresponsible pet owner...I firmly believe that if you can't afford to get the pet fixed then you shouldn't get it in the first place.

I just got off the phone with my friend who is a cat lover and she has decided to take the mom and all four kittens. She has homes for three of the kittens. The mom and other kitten she plans to keep and have them spayed.

I am keeping my white, deaf cat and plan to keep him in side and I will have him spayed when money allows.

I have learned my lesson.

This thread can be closed as the problem has been taken care of. Thanks to all who posted. I appreciate the advice.

I don't mean to sound harsh but please don't keep any of the kittens if you are to financially to afford fixing the cat you are keeping. If you don't have $100 available for a one time operation, what would you do if a health problem came up? Emergency vet bills can easily exceed $1000, and by having more than one animal, you are upping the odds that one of these days you will be faced with that situation. And animals are not objects that you can just throw away when they are defective. They deserve to get the care that they need and as I said, if you can't afford a $100 neutering, I'm afraid of what would happen to a pet if it even had a simple urinary tract infection.
