anyone else suffer from this disaster? I just picked a huge black bloody lump off of boo's chin AGAIN! I wash it daily but its not quite helping. Then I relized my other cat has black zits too. any one else suffering from this disaster?

No, but I have heard of it. I think it's quite common. Do your kitties eat out of a plastic dish? I think I read somewhere that that could make it worse.

I have heard that is is from plastic feeding dishes. Some cats are allergic to them.

You sure it's acne? My old cat used to be scabby all over and it turned out to be an allergy to fish (which is in nearly everything.) What does your vet say about it?

Not a vet or anything, but I would prob suggest not picking at them, or he could get an infection. Call the vet and ask for advice.

vet says its acne. They eat out of metal bowls and perscripton food without fish (its uninary health). Im just frustrated with zit picking.

My chocolate lab had this problem. A tablespoon of yogurt in her food solved the problem.

we washed kittys chin with epsom salts solution...it helped. Antibiotics? Ive read antibiotics help.

we were told it is because their food is so greasy and they are not able to clean their chins very well.

we just cleaned with a mild soap- vet said you could also use acne pads - and we were told it was OK to rub in a little anti-biotic ointment,if it gets too bad. I definitely wouldn't pick or mess with them.

Oooh, please don't pick the scabs off. If they are 'bloody' they are not healed yet. There is no good medical reason to pick at the scabs or the zits--so you don't have to. I am sure it is not very comfortable for your cats either.

Do either of your cats eat food with grains? That is a very common source of allergies--corn by products? Can you check the label?

Gaack! I've never heard of this!! I have a cat and never knew such a thing existed. Your poor kitty, I hope it heals/resolves/disappears/etc., asap!

No corn by products in there food. Im very picky what I buy. So I should be leaving the gross scabs on? Humm vet told me to pick them. I do wash her chin daily even though my other cat tends to bathe her child for her.

if vet told you no, i would listen to vet over a bunch of us.

Yep; other peoples' kitties get cat acne (or "cat-ney", as I call it ) The vet said it's because my kitty's chin gets greasy from the special food she has to eat. I just got a HYOOOOOOOOOGE whitehead (Seriously, it was 5X as big as anything that ever came out of my face as a teenager :rotfl:) out of her chin. My kitty's chin, not the vet's, lol.

Both my cats had this on and off. The meds were too harsh. I found that using a toothbrush helped a lot. First, it cleaned off any "loose" gunk. Second, it increased blood flow to the area and that seemed to help. If there was anything dried/crusty on the chin, I'd dip the toothbrush in very warm water before I brushed the chin. That helped break it up. The cats loved the chin brushing. :cat:

That IS "EWW"! :scared1: Oh, wow...I don't know what to tell you then; my kitty's catney has never been so bad that she's resorted to rubbing it on my bed. Your poor kitty...she must be very uncomfortable to do that. I hope you're able to get it sorted out!

Yea shes going to the vet again soon but I think the big zit was my fault for not taking care of it (i shave her chin every saturday. less hair seems to mean less acne) since I was sick last week. Hopefully this week is better.
