HI All- first time poster here...
My entire family has just booked on the Jan. 28th of Magic. We are booked in Cat.9 but are on deck 1. From what I can tell we are in the bowels of the ship? Does anyone have any feedback for me? We are booked in 1070,1078,1064,1060,and 1058. I would love to hear the pros AND the cons. (BTW, none of us have cruised with Disney before so we are just excited to go even we are in the dungeon.!!)

We have stayed on Deck 1 in Cat 9's twice...both times we really enjoyed our location. You are very close to most everything on the ship (except, obviously the pool deck). We have also stayed on every other deck in our 13 DCL cruises...so I can compare locations and Decks 1 and 2 are my favorites for convenience.

The Deck 1 (Cat 9) cabins have 2 smaller portholes as opposed to one larger porthole but we did not find this to be a problem.

You are not in the dungeon or the bowels of the ship....there are actually 2 or 3 crew decks below Deck 1.

Every passenger deck on DCL looks exactly the same so would not be able to tell the difference walking out of your cabin on Deck or Deck 8....so rest easy.

Deck 1 is actually the most convenient deck to be on for shore excursions...the gangway is located there for most ports and it is so convenient to just walk on the ship and walk down the hall to your cabin....you do not have to wait with the masses to catch an elevator to your deck. It is also the easiest deck to catch an elevator (other than port days).

You will love the location and please do not feel like you are in steerage....it is one of my passions to dispell that myth!!! :sunny:

P.S. Another myth is that Decks 1 and 2 are under the water line....NOT!!!!

Ditto mmouse37!

We really enjoyed Deck 1. Each kid had her own porthole to look out of. We got to see a lot of crew members we otherwise wouldn't have seen, and they were so nice to the kids. We even saw a fire drill one day. All the CM's had to stop what they were doing and kneel down forus to pass by.

Nothing was better than re-boarding the ship in St. Thomas in 90 degree heat, and being able to get right to our cool room (1048). The other passengers had to wait for quite some time for an elevator.

We watched some dolphins play right outside our porthole in Cape Canaveral. It was so cool to see them so close. Of course they went back under water every time I took a picture!

Hope you have a great time.
