HI!

Has anyone ever booked with just a guarantee? We are on the 12/26 Wonder, which was virtually sold out at the time I booked, i was told, and was given a Cat 6 or higher guarantee??

Just wondering if by chance if we will end up with the Walt Disney Suite:p ???

THANKS!

Hi Sherry,

I really can't answer your question since we always book a regular cat 6 room, but I noticed you are in Wakefield....me too:p

OH Wow! Can you say small world?? HAHA I have been reading your posts as well..Maybe we are neighbors??

I tried to book a specific cat 6 room, but they would only give me a guarantee..So that is why i am curious about that...

But booking at the time, and being told just about sold out, i felt like i paid for the walt disney suite,.....

Although the Walt Disney and Roy O. Disney suites are probably outside the realm of possibility, you may very well find yourself in a cat.5 or even a cat.4 cabin. Chances are that they would upgrade someone in a 1 bedroom suite into the Disney suites before they would do so for you. But hey, magic does happen.

Most folks in a guarantee status end up in the category they booked, but it is possible you'll be bumped to a Cat. 5 or even a Cat. 4. Don't hold out hope for the suite, though. ;)

We originally booked in a Category 8 about 4 months prior to sailing. I couldn't stand the verandah talk anymore and paid for an upgrade to a Category 6 at the 2 month point.

We were on guarantee status until our docs arrived and then received our cabin assignment (6556) so no further upgrade but we are very happy with the location of the room (many people on these boards have had this room) and I think it'll be great

I sure would have liked the extra space in a Cat. 4 !!

I booked in a GTY category and was upgraded, but that was in early 2000. We received an excellent cabin, but it wasn't a suite.

Keep in mind that there are 140 Cat 6, 116 Cat 5, and 80 Cat 4 cabins. There are 18 cat 3, 2 Cat 2, and 2 Cat 1 suites, so the statistics don't look that promising for an upgrade that jumps that many levels.

Here's my understanding of how the Guaranty status works:
Suppose there is a total of 100 cabins available in a category. DCL takes reservations for that category until it gets to a predetermined level, for instance, 95. If they still get booking requests for that category, they place them in a GTY status, up until another predetermined upper level, for instance, 110.

From many past booking experiences, they know that there will be several people that have to cancel their reservations just before the final payment date at 60 days before the cruise date. Let's suppose they have seen an average of about 10% cancellations in the past. So they can figure that they can accept up to 110 bookings for the original count of 100 cabins. If they have those 110 reservations with the first 95 being assigned cabin numbers, the remaining 15 will be in GTY status. After the final payment date, lets say that 10% of the 110 bookings did cancel (11 cancels), so now there are 99 bookings left, with the last 15 needing to be assigned cabins, so no upgrades are needed.

Now let's suppose that the numbers are all the same except cancellations were closer to 5%, so only 6 people cancelled. Now we have 104 bookings with 100 cabins with the last 15 needing cabin assignments. This means that 4 people will have to be upgraded to a higher category.

I'm sure there are cut off levels where they would know that if they took additional GTY bookings for a category, it would almost certainly mean that an upgrade would have to be given, so they wouldn't accept more bookings above that level, which I'm estimating to be 110 cabins.

There are lots of other factors involved that I didn't account for, but that's my understanding of how it works.

I'm sure you'll enjoy your 'at least cat 6' cruise.

hope that helps

THANKS albiats for your very informative email...I will enjoy the cruise no matter what category i am in :-))

:)

I've always wondered, can you book a guarantee for 4 people? Someone told me that you may end up with only beds for 2 or that they wouldn't even let you. Has anyone had personal experience?

I've booked a Cat.6 for the 3/29/03 Magic. There are 4 of us going - so I hope there will be room for all of us! I booked straight through DCL....

scsagh--

there are four of us booked on the guarantee... myself, my husband, my 5 year old, and my 1 year old son, and we have requested a crib as well..So i dont think it matters..

If you booked directly thru DCL and not thru a Travel Agent, you can check the status of your reservation online, and that would indicate whether or not you have been assigned a cabin number and what it is.

You go to the DCL Home page and then you click on 'Reservations' or on the little suitcase above Captain Mickey. Then find the 'Check Reservation' link. You enter the DCL Reservation Number and the phone number you gave them.

I did have to register with DCL before I could get to the page, not sure if you 'have to' register or not, but it's free.

hope that helps

I just went to the Disneycruise website and found out I'm in 6556 for our 3/29/03 cruise - anybody every have this room before???

I'm SO EXCITED!!! I wish March would hurry up and get here!:D

So I went back and actually read some of the previous posts... Masonpips- you'll have to let me know how the cabin is!
