Cat 6 + Cat 11 Question

We're looking to book two rooms. a Cat 6 and a Cat11 right across the hall, or close to it.

However, Cat11 seems to be only on a GTY basis. So I'm wondering, is there a decent way to be comfortable about getting the desireably close Cat11 room?

If the Cat11 got upgraded, I would be willing to offer a swap, but I'd hate to leave that up embarkation time. And it could be complicated. And I wouldn't want to count on an upgrade anyway.

Basically, I'd like to get some hope of stateroom confirmation before making the reservation. This is for 8/31.

Any ideas or experience?

When you book a guarantee, you're pretty much at their mercy as to where the stateroom is located. I think your best bet is to get on the waitlist for specific staterooms across from the cat. 6 you have booked. You could probably also have them add a note to your reservation asking for your cat. 11 room to be near your cat. 6, but I don't know that they could guarantee that they could do that. Unfortunately, the best way to be sure to have to adjacent rooms is probably to book another category. Good luck!

Thanks for the info.

How does getting on the waitlist for a stateroom work? Especially a cat11? Actually, is it possible to get on the waitlist for a particular cat11? I wasn't sure from the comments if it also applied to cat11s.

What is a GTY basis?

I also wanted a CAT 6, but can't afford it..... Would CAT 11 be the way to go???

Thanks, Goldi

esch,

I was referring to the category 11 room when I suggested the wait list. My thinking was that if you are able to book a specific room in category 6, that you could ask to be waitlisted for a specific category 11 room across the hall or nearby. While I'm not sure you can be waitlisted for a specific room, it's worth trying. To do so you just have to call DCL (or have your TA do it if you book through one) and ask. It also wouldn't hurt to call back from time to time to check and see if any of these rooms have opened up.

goldi,

Basically, booking a category guarantee (GTY) means that they don't have a specific room to assign to you right then, but they guarantee you'll be assigned to at least that category of stateroom, if not a higher one. They often over-book popular categories so that they'll have passengers to fill the rooms when people cancel. If nothing opens up in your category, you may get upgraded. I would not book a guarantee and count on being upgraded, though, as they're just as likely to upgrade someone with an assigned room in your category and then put you in the newly opened room.

If you can't afford a category 6, then you might try category 7. These are the least expensive rooms with a verandah. If that's still too expensive, you probably want to look at a category 8 or 9, which will have a large porthole window. Category 11's are inside staterooms. I think what esch wanted to do was have one verandah room and an inside room right across the hall. I would not say that category 11 is the next best thing to a category 6.

We booked with DVC--using all points---and they were able to book us intoa cat 6 and a cat11 right across the hall...i even got room numbers...this is for the June12th Eastern Magic...I like having the room booked solid. Maybe if you book through DCL directly they could give you the same situation as us....we are booked into 6610--cat 6 and 6611---cat 11.

The Navigator Verandah.....

If there are any pictures out there of the CATs, I'd appreciate the link.

THanks.

Thanks Lloyd!

I think my big confusion was that I thought that all Cat11s were GTY. Silly me was only checking Cat11s for the next few months.

I will definitely take your advice and see what DU can do about keeping an eye on a few of the Cat11s near my Cat6, in case they open up.

And next time, I'll plan ahead far enough to book specific Cat11s.

One more question.... Does the Cat 7 (Navigator's Verandah) window open for fresh air, or is it completely enclosed and only can be looked through????

It's not a window you can open or close. It's an open porthole, the breeze blows right through.
