I am trying to decide between a cat 4 and cat 5 stateroom with veranda --- what is the difference betweeen the two other than price?

Is paying for cat 3 with the price up?

The difference between category 4 and 5 is about 4 extra feet in length in the stateroom. Just enough room for a fifth berth. The verandah for both of these categories is the same size. Category 5's sleep 3 or 4, while category 4's sleep 4 or 5, depending on the configuration.

The brouchure lists the size of a category 4 room as 304 sq. ft.; and the category 5, 6, & 7 rooms as 268 sq. ft.

I've never been in cat. 3, so I can't comment on that, but the
difference in price is substantial, probably over $1000 per person for the first two passengers over what a category 4 costs.

If you are planning to opt for a 5, I would suggest going for a 6 unless you really want to be on deck 7. That's pretty much what you are paying extra for...other than the fact that Cat. 6 is on Decks 5 and 6, there is no difference. Personally, I prefer being close to the water anyway.
Cat. 4s are a little larger, but they are also all on Deck 8, so you have to watch to make sure there is nothing too noisy (like the Goofy Pool stage) overhead.

Can I still have a veranda on cat. 6 -- Hubby is too clostrophobic to not have access to a window and outdoors. Will cat. 6 sleep 4 people?

Renee

Some cat. 6's sleep 4 people. It might be a bit tight, depending on how old your kids are. They do have a verandah. They're the same floor plan as the cat. 5's.

I prefer deck 7 for a couple of reasons: First, there are fewer staterooms on this deck, hence less traffic, and second, it's closer to the pools, ESPN bar, etc. BUT....I agree that the difference between cat. 5 and 6 isn't really worth just being one or two decks higher, so my compromise is to try for cat. 7 (Navigator's Verandah) on deck 7.
