Hello,

I have seen a number of posts on the different room configurations for Category 3 on the Magic, but was hoping for a clarification on the sleeping arrangements. We have been lucky enough (at least in my opinion) to get one of cat 3 at the aft of the ship (8102 - I believe). In addition to the queen bed, is there a bed that comes down from the ceiling in this room - my son loves these - or is it just a murphy bed in the wall?

Thanks!
Pete

It's a Murphy bed in either the bedroom or living room; I'm told it varies. Ours was in the bedroom on the last cruise; we're next in a midship, sideways Cat 3 and it may be a different location. The upper bunk that lowers from the ceiling is available in cabins and the second bedroom of Cat 1 suites. Not sure about Cat 2.

Congrats on the Cat 3. Although there are only two of us, we love the extra space.

8102 doesn't have a murphy bed at all. There is a queen size bed in the bedroom...and it doesn't separate into twins...and there is a fold-out sofa sleeper. No pull downs at all.

When we were in 8602, my son and daughter wouldn't share the sofa sleeper, so we brought an air mattress to put on the floor for him.

In the mid-ship Cat 3's, the extra murphy bed is in the living room (great because you can get to the balcony in the master bedroom. In the Cat 2's, there is one ceiling mounted pull down bed in the 2nd bedroom along with a queen bed (that can be split into 2 twins). In the 2 twin configuration, the ceiling mount bed is over one of the twins, like a bunk bed.

Thanks for the info. It looks like my boys maybe doubling up in the pull-out-sleeper for this cruise unless one of them want to crash on the floor. Maybe we can get the conceirge to grab us some extra sheets and build a fort on the floor for the oldest!

We've stayed in 8602 and I'm going to guess that 8102 is like 8602. The living room area in 8602 has a lot of extra space that would easily fit a double or queen size air mattress. Both of those cabins (along with 8100 and 8600) only hold 4 people, so there is no murphy bed in any of them.

Hey outahere,

What did you think of 8602? Did you use the verandah often and did it come with any deck furniture (e.g., chairs, lounges, and/or table)?

How about the bathrooms, did you have any problems with flooding from the shower?

Did you have any problem with the motion of the ship being in the stern?

If you don't mind me asking, when were you last in 8602?

Thanks!
Pete

We had 8602 in December of '04.....and I'm hoping that they have now fixed the shower in the Master bath so that it doesn't flood the floor, because it did back then. They have removed the tubs from those bathrooms, so now there are just showers in both baths.

We were on the ship for 10 nights and didn't have any problem with motion...but I think we had nice weather and calm seas. I know that we've had worse motion problems in the front of the ship, compared to the back.

We LOVED the huge verandah. There is a round table that would seat four chairs, a smaller table, four deck chairs and two loungers. The only thing it could really use is an umbrella...there is no shade out there.

I have to disagree with Outahere. When the fold-out sofa sleeper is open, there is very little floor space in 8602 and 8102. We managed to fit a twin air mattress next to the balcony door on the far side of the sofa sleeper, but it was a tight fit. With the sofa opened, the only way to get over there was to climb across the sofa. There's no walking room between the foot of the bed (of the sofa sleeper) and the entertainment unit.
In 8600 & 8100, however, there IS more floor space.
I guess if you were to move the arm chair, and the dining table and chairs, you could fit a double or queen air mattress on the side of the sofa that's closest to the wet bar/entry....but then no one could get to the door of the suite or the 2nd bathroom.

The reason that there is less space in 8102 & 8602 is because the room is cut in a pie shape....it's wider where the wet bar and table are, then narrows as it heads toward the balcony door. I know the pictures I posted on the "virtual stateroom tour" are small, but if you look closely, you can see. I might be able to post them here, larger, if you'd like.

Pete....how old are your two boys? I'd say that if they are under the age of 12 or 13, depending on their size, they'd do okay sharing the sofa. My teen daughter and her friend shared one a year ago, and it was a pretty snug fit.

Did you check the link that I posted above? There are pictures of the verandah with the deck furniture there :thumbsup2

Thanks justmestace for the additional info. My two boys are 6 & 7, so I know they can definitely fit on the fold out bed. I think my oldest would just get a kick out of camping on the floor! Wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the cruise they both were on the floor :0)

Yes, thanks for the link to the photos; Just checked them out. With that much space on the verandah, it looks like we all could sleep out under the stars - if it wasn't for the possible blow-back from the top decks and onlookers..oh well.

You will SOOOO love that verandah! I think it's a perfect spot for a family with boys the ages of yours. And they're the perfect age to fit in that room. Two teen boys would have been a squeeze! Have a great time....

We've stayed in 8102 on both ships. The master bath on the Magic floods but the one on the Wonder doesn't (at least it didn't three years ago).

No problems with motion and we loved, repeat loved the huge verandah. It has two lounge chairs and a table and chair set. There is a lack of privacy on the verandah but I was able to hand down Bahama Mamas to my wife who couldn't attend the cocktail party because our daughter was sleeping.

A twin air mattress is an excellent idea so that siblings don't have to share the pull out. We're going to plan for that next time.

That's hilarious on handing down the drinks from above. I was envisioning a much higher drop, but it doesn't sound like it. So, how far from the verandah is the next deck?

We were in 8602 two years ago for the EB repo back to Florida. The verandah had a good sized table with 4 chairs and 2 loungers. We probably didn't use the verandah as much as we usually do, because it is so open to deck 9. As we were going through the Panama Canal several people, at Topsiders, asked me how to get to that verandah - they weren't too happy when I told them it was private. We did have trouble with flooding from the shower in the master bath, so we used the shower in the second bath instead (it didn't flood). We had no problem with the motion (except for when we went though Hurricane Hilary!!), and actually kind of liked being able to feel a slight vibration from the engines.

Hmmm.... I seem to remember quite a bit of room between the sofa and the living room balcony door - memory must be failing me (again!). I do agree that the only way to get to that part of the room would be to climb across the sofa sleeper, when it is out.

It's not too far from deck 9 down to the verandah - handing drinks down wouldn't be hard to do. However, from the 8602 verandah down to the verandah of the cabin below you, would be tricky (and probably a little dangerous).

Thanks for all the info! :thumbsup2 DH and I have booked stateroom 8602 for our upcoming Western Caribbean and just had notification from DU that it's available for next summer's Mexican Riviera cruise :woohoo: so it's great to read some feedback... :goodvibes

I'm especially looking forward to DH passing me a Bahama Mama from Deck 9... ;)

She had to stand on a chair and I had to scrunch down IIRC. I walked the second one down. We're back in the cabin on the 7/13 Mex Riveria cruise next year, but we are really hoping one of the cat 3s or 2s opens for the EB Repo.
