cat 12 guarantee?

Helo - we have a cat 12 guarantee booked for august 29 (a pretty good price). Has anyone ever done this? What did you end up with? Also when did you find out your room? And for those who have actually stayed in cat 12, how was it?

We booked a 12 last September.
We were upgraded to a 9.
Not bad!!

I booked a category 11 for my daughter and I (leaving in 2 weeks) thru an online TA...

We were just upgraded to a cat 9. In my opinion and the opinions of various cruise experts that I've spoken to the GTY (guaranteed) cabin is the best way to go with hopes of being upgraded.

Sorry I don't know anything about cat 12's, but we are in a cat 11 on the August 29th cruise. There is a thread on the cruise meets board for our cruise. Everyone on it would love to hear from you. I'm sure you will have a fantastic vacation whatever stateroom you end up in!

A 12 and an 11 are the same except for location on the ship (12 is on deck 2, 11 on other decks). I've booked this category and stayed in it. I've also booked it (gty) and been upgraded to 8 and 9.

In some cases, we found out about the upgrade when we got a call from TA asking if we wanted the upgrade DCL had proposed. In another case, we got our room assignment when we got our documents and I saw the room number. In yet another case, we were upgraded after we got documents--just given the new room number and told to write it in on our luggage tags.

So...an upgrade can come at any time. We've been upgraded on 3 of our 10 cruises with DCL.

For those who were given a specific room - when I check my res it still says GTY - at some point when I look on their website, will see a category or room listed?

Usually you will not get upgraded until closer to the cruise...like 3-4 weeks before, unless it has sold out far in advance (the lower priced cabins). More than likely you will be assigned a room number when your documents are mailed out to you a few weeks before the cruise. If this for some reason doesnt' happen, you will get word of it when you board, but I think that is less likely, however possible.
If the higher priced cabins dont' sell well as it gets closer, they upgrade the lower cabins to resell them to others so they can fill the ship.
