Hey all!

I want to do the Castaway 5K. However, I can't jog. I walk. I don't even walk fast. Maybe about 2.8 or so. It'll take me about 2 hours to do 5K. I know the cast members won't be there past an hour. The question I have is:

1. Will they still let us do it?
2. Will we still get a pin or hat or plaque or anything to show that we accomplished it?

This past November when I did the 5K I noticed a lot of people walking the 5K, however I don't recall what times they finished. Nothing is stopping you from starting so they will let you do it. As far is the medal you receive at the end I think if you start and finish the race you should get something but again I don't know if there is a time limit to the race. This is something you can asks Guest Services or the cast member on the day of the event when you meet to sign up.

Of course you can still do it. The last time I did the 5k in October 2014, they made provisions if you were later than they were handing out the medals, you could still pick them up. They should provide that information to you as it may change each trip. You can also let them know before you start out! Have a great time.

Yes on both. Just register at GS. You show up at a designated area on the ship, then leave as a group and walk to the starting point. You do the 5K. Most walkers can do it in about an hour or so. I had foot surgery just before I did the 5K in March and still managed to do it just under an hour at what I consider a normal walking pace (but we also stopped and chatted with the CMs at the water stations, and occasionally other walkers as well). There were several people behind us when we finished but the CMs were keeping an eye on them and remained until everyone finished. If there is no CM at the finish line you can still get your "medal" and the 5K CM will tell you how to do that.

This is so good to know. My 2 new knees will let me walk the route, but it will take awhile. We will sign up, and do it next week!

Bobbi -

Although I am sorry about your knees, I am glad to hear I won't be the only slow poke doing this on our cruise! Once I surprise my boys with this I am going to ask my 12 year old if he wants to go to.

Do you mean you can do about 2.8 miles in an hour? Good news, the "5K" isn't quite a 5K, so that's less mileage for you.

If you don't care about the medal, they DO have a 5K *walk* that starts about an hour later than the Island 5K run. There's no medal, but anyone can buy a shirt, hat, pin, etc at the giftshop.

If anyone wants to walk with my Wife and I, PM me. We are going to be on the Dream this coming weekend (Dec 11th)!

We started doing the walks for the MS Society as we both need to get in shape, and this seems like a natural addition to our exercise goals!

Thanks for the advise all! I assume I just sign up at the guest services on the ship?

@TiggerBouncy have fun!!

The sign-up location will be in your Navigator...I think it'll be the Port Adventures Desk, but if not there, then yes, Guest Services. :)

No, I believe he means he walks at about 2.8 mph, so the estimation is it would take about 2 hours do to 3.1 miles (actually more like 90 mins).

Personally, I wouldn't waste 2 hours on Castaway Cay walking that 5K route. There's really nothing to see except foliage and even in December, there's the possibility of it being quite warm. If getting in shape is a goal, then I would walk the deck daily and save my time on CC to explore or sit on the beach.

Right. I walk about 2.8 mph. So if it's a 5 mile walk, it would take about 90 minutes. I read they only hang out for an hour or so.

I want to do it for the pin / award / whatever. Believe it or not, that's motivation for me. Having something that i can put on a wall or in my pin collection is what would get me up and get me to do it as opposed to just blowing it off and sitting on the beach. I'm a pin collector, so if it's a pin I can only get that way, i'm more inclined to do what it takes - hop the entire trail, walk on my hands - anything for a pin. :jumping3: if it's something I just buy - even if I just buy it only after I do the walk - I'm more likely to at the crucial time of choice go the easy route, buy it and have drink while I lay there and fry. Yes - I know I have motivational issues - why do you think I am in this situation to begin with?!?!?! :rotfl2:But lord it over me and say you gotta walk if you want the pin - well shoot - I'll walk 20 miles if that's what it takes. Gotta get me a pin!

It's a 5K, which is 3.1 miles. The last time I did it, they gave out plastic medals, which are cute. There may be pins available in the CC gift shop, I didn't look, but they don't hand them out at the finish.

Yes- just under 3 miles is the 5K on Castaway. You should be done in an hour by your pace. It was my first 5k run and I cherish my medal/pin. Good luck and have a wonderful trip!

Yeah, I realized after this thread, that I was failing to convert the K to an m. Duh!
