hi there! we (me, DW, DD4) have our vacation booked from getawaytoday.com, and we will be staying at the castle inn. we liked it because it looks close to the parks, was inexpensive, and has a cool theme. but reading other posts on this forum, i'm now a little weary about the place. is it really that bad? don't need anything fancy, but certainly want something safe, and clean.

if, after hearing some feedback, we don't want to stay there anymore, does anyone know if we can change our reservations through getawaytoday.com?

thanks for your help!

Looks like from the reviews they have rooms that are cleaner then others. It's a solid 2 star hotel. If you get a dirty/worn room you might just want to request another one. Some love the place, some don't. I think alot depends on what you are expecting and what you comfort level is. No matter what enjoy your trip!!

It isn't on the bed bug registry yet

We honeymooned there (through GAT) in 2004 and had a great stay. :) They mentioned that if you ask at check in they can often upgrade your room for a minimal fee.

Our room was clean and we never felt unsafe. (Okay, I made DH check the bathroom for zombies, but that wasn't about the hotel, that was about an unfortunate movie misunderstanding...)

Later I've seen more positive reviews on the CI. It's possible it's a lot better than in the past and you are getting a bargain that will fade away.

We stayed there a few years ago and we will NEVER stay there again. The service was terrible, the room was dirty, the staff was rude (someone at the front desk yelled at my DD when she called to ask them if they had WiFi), the noise from people walking was insane and we could hear everything thru the thin walls. We had 4 towels for 6 guests and no matter how many times we asked for more we never got them, we went to the pool and there were NO towels.....yes it was February but the pool was heated so the kids wanted to swim, DBF went to the office to ask for towels and they gave him one, 1 towel for 4 kids to share. On our way back to our room we passed the maid cart, we took a bunch of towels so we could all shower and not have to share towels. We were only there for a few days but still. We asked for the manager multiple times and were never allowed to talk to them, I reviewed them on TA and emailed the manager after we got home thru their website, never heard anything back at all.....it was easily the worst stay we have ever had at Disney!

We won't ever stay there again. Our room was dirty, there was a hole in the wall. Bathroom was nasty, and the water wasn't even working when we first got there. Had no cable for 4 of the 5 nights we stayed. So no TV at all. The staff was rude, and the manager would never even call us back. There are far better options in my opinion!

If being close is a priority, we just booked a room at Park Vue. This one seemed to have good reviews and the pics show it being directly across the street.

Yes you can change Hotels with getawatoday. Did you purchase the "piece of mind travel package trip insurance"?
If so fear not my friend you'll be taken care of with NO cancelation fees what so ever. Also you can get a 100% refund! If you didn't I think it's about $75.00 to cancel. I'm not sure if you'll get all your money back.*

For $30.00 on a package through Getawaytoday it's crazy not to buy trip insurance. But I'm one of those "What if that happens"!*

If you need cheap, no frills, but clean, try the Anaheim Plaza Inn. Dh and ds stayed there in August and were pleased.

I have stayed there 4 out of 5 of my trips this year.

it's not as bad as people make it sound. i never encountered any issues, the staff has always been nice and friendly. I always need an iron and ironing board sent to my room and it gets there in minutes everytime.

It's not fancy, but it is clean and provides a good place to rest and shower. You probably won't be spending too much time in the room anyways since you'll be at DLR.

The price is always the best for how close it is.

I am actually gonna be staying there tomorrow through wednesday, if you would like photos I can take some for you :)

Pretty sure you can change your reservation through Get Away Today; they'll probably just charge a change fee. Maybe you could get that waived if you upgraded to something a little more expensive. They are really great to work with.

I haven't tried this place personally because I have been deterred by the many negative reviews I read. A neighbor down the street stayed there with her family a couple of years ago. She had no horror stories to report but commented that the place didn't have much going for it and she will plan further ahead next time so she has better choices.

HOLY TOLEDO …. I had no idea there was a BED BUG registry. DH & I travel often … I might just save this site to my favorites. :thumbsup2

OH and we just stayed at the HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS on Katella (11-12-13) (not on the registry) and it was great. $92.00 for the night. Quiet room on the top (4) floor. Fridge in room, free breakfast, free parking and free wifi! :thumbsup2

We stayed at the Castle Inn in Feb...it was clean (really clean actually!!),close and cheap :) We were there literally only to sleep and shower so can't comment on pool etc, but our DD6 loved the theming and the walk was quick.

We found the beds comfy and the hotel quiet :confused3 we would stay again

That would be great if you could take pics, that would put my mind at ease! Thanks everyone for the feedback, I sincerely appreciate it!

I think you've been lucky.....our stay was absolutely horrible, especially with 4 kids! Kids like pools so we always consider the pool and I like a clean room, not a bathroom was gross black hairs, and it should NEVER take multiple requests to get 6 towels when you book a room for 6 people.

Are you sure it was the CI? We found the walk not so close for us. The Camelot Inn is much closer and is also castle themed......

OP I second the suggestion of the Anaheim Plaza, we've stayed there a few times and have been happy with the rooms, staff and pool area, we pay around $60 a night....and it's closer than the Castle Inn......

100% sure :) Still have my print out from our trip...we could see the TOT...
6 year old had no issues with the walk, even with going hard from rope drop to close ;) I think we timed it and it took us maybe 8 minutes from lobby to bag check?

I really would change your reservation if I were you. There are so many other options on Harbor within walking distance and very close to the same price point--that are SO much better. It would be a shame to ruin your vacation to save just a little money. Spend a bit more and get something a little better--and you will notice a huge difference. Getaway today is a really good company--so if you call them now, I know they will work with you to change to another hotel.

Most Disney regulars know not to:
1. Eat at Captain Kidd's
2. Stay at Castle Inn
3. Stay at Eden Roc Inn

The Hotels on Harbor that have similar price points that people like here are:
Howard Johnsons (VERY clean and comfortable, provided you stay away from freeway side)
Fairfield Inn
Best Western Park Place Inn
Park Vue Inn
Tropicana
Candy Cane Inn
Camelot Inn
Carosel

If you look through old threads here, you won't find many people who like the Castle Inn and Suites. Don't be fooled by the theme--it is no castle!

I stayed with my kids in May. We probably won't stay there again, given a choice.

Pros: Inexpensive last minute reservation, clean, large room, fridge, free wi-fi, easy walk to DL.

Cons: Old everything, dark rooms, flat beds. On the third night home we decided it looked more like a prison (as you approach from the side) than a castle.

;)

Didn't even know there was a bed bug registry! Funny, yet disturbing!

Thank you everyone for your feedback, both positive and negative. Its so great to be able to come to a place like this forum, with fellow Disney lovers, and get honest reviews to help in making your decisions. Love you guys!
