Anyone have an opinion on the Castle Inn & Suites? I'm looking for mid October for two rooms that are suites that is walking distance and most everything like that is booked up. Anyone know if they have a heated pool?

I know the Anabella has a heated pool but my parents are coming with us and my stepdad has a bum knee and can't walk as far (or doesn't like to) so really how far of a walk is this hotel? And are there shortcuts to getting into the park from here?

Between those two I would pick the Anabella for sure. Castle has many BAD reviews. Dirty, poor customer service, etc. Anabella does have a short cut if you walk up Disney Way to the GCH and then cut through the lobby to DTD.

Thank you DangerMouse! I had thought I'd heard bad things about the Castle Inn. I like the look of the Anabella. but wasn't sure about the walk, that sounds like a little shortcute though and could be doable...about how long would it take to walk it? I'm thinking 10 mins?

This website http://www.mouseplanet.com/7280/How_Far_Is_It shows it at approx. .67 mile. You can click the link to get a map to show the path. I'd guess it's about 15 min walking.

I've not been to the Anabella. But DO NOT stay at the Castle Inn. No matter what. Not if someone paid you to stay there. I am not a hotel snob by any means (I've stayed in hostels all over Europe), but this place is a dive.

Just say no.

ITA with this poster, DO NOT STAY at Castle Inn! Extremely drity and bad customer service!!! The carpets alone will make you SICK:eek:

Absolutely do NOT stay at the Castle. We did when we took our DDs friends, we had 6 people in the room, got 4 towels, asked 4 times for towels and never got them! We finally took them ourselves from a maid cart! Pool was NOT heated, the girls swam but they were freezing when they got out and NO towels at the pool either!!! They had to share 2 towels between the 4 of them back to the room!! That was when we took the "extra" towels off the maid cart. The rooms were ok but not great, they were mostly clean but there were questionable hairs in the bathroom. The front desk staff was rude beyond belief, one of the gals yelled at my DD on the phone when she called to ask about WiFi. We complained there and when we got home I emailed the hotel, heard NOTHING from them, not 1 thing. And the walk is not close, with a bum knee you need to be closer. I'm thinking BWPPI or Tropicana to be honest. Or Candy Cane Inn, they have a free shuttle.

I am planning to stay at Anabella in December and even with good knees don't expect to make that walk more than a couple of times. We will probably use ART most of the time. Over half a mile each way gets old fast.

I stayed at the Castle last week. Not my preferred place, but I got a free night package deal. If you just need a basic place to sleep and shower, the Castle servers just fine. I prefer the Best Western Anaheim Inn up the street. Overall, the BW is a far superior place.

Chiming in to agree with the previous posters who've not had a good experience at Castle Inn.

Background: I'm not a "hotel snob", either. I had stayed at Castle Inn a few times 10+ years ago; back then, it was rather nice for the price...larger-than-the-usual-size-of-a-budget-motel-room accomodations, CLEAN, as quiet as a hotel/motel by a Park that caters to families with young children could be expected to be, felt "safe".

Fast forward to my holiday trip, December, 2007:
Room was filthy. And I mean NASTY FILTHY, not just "an older motel with a bit of wear & tear to the carpets/furnishings". Toilet was leaking; water all over the bathroom floor upon check in. Call to the front desk made no difference. Upon pulling down the top cover of the bed before going to sleep, it was discovered that the previous person to stay in the room had an..."accident" in the bed, and it was left there :scared1:.

I don't usually leave bad reviews of places, but I wouldn't want anyone planning a happy vacation to end up stuck someplace like that!

I've not stayed at the Anabella, but it is nearby a hotel I've stayed at several times before & is serviced by the ART bus. As a previous poster mentioned, it would be quite a walk if one were to walk to/from the Park more than once in a day. I haven't read any bad reviews of the Anabella, so if it were a choice between Castle Inn and there, I'd definitely choose the Anabella!!!

I've stayed at The Anabella before and we liked it there so much that we're staying there again when we go next month! There is a ART/trolley that stops just outside of the hotel and takes you right to the Disneyland entrance. When we stayed there it was very clean and we had great service from all the staff. The food there was good too. :)

I've stayed at Castle Inn twice in the last 18 months and thought it was fine. The walk was a bit too far, but the price was great. I thought the front desk staff was incredibly friendly each time I spoke with them. I don't know... I've read the bad reviews but I haven't experienced it personally. Both times I stayed there were semi-last-minute trips and there weren't a lot of good deals to be had. It was worth it at the time, but I would prefer somewhere closer. We had to take a cab back one night because we were completely exhausted from a really long day in the park.
