Got back late last night (Eurostar couldn't organise the proverbial in a brewery, but that's another story!) from our 2 nights in the Castle Club at DLH.
I never thought I'd say this, but I wish I hadn't read quite so much on the DISboards and other sites about the Castle Club.
So many trip reports said that there would be champagne, flowers and chocolates - plus possibly other goodies - waiting in the room that I believed this was always the case. Yes, I should have known better as they are not listed by Disney as Castle Club perks, but it seemed as if everyone always received them. But when we arrived on Friday, nothing.
It wasn't that I was desperate for these goodies really but somehow I'd set my heart on them, and I was so disappointed they weren't there. Eventually on Saturday I did ask at the Castle Club reception, mainly in case we had simply been forgotten. First of all the chap said they were only for suites but I said I had read several reports online where people were in ordinary Castle Club rooms and received them, and so often that I had understood it to be standard practice. His English then deteriorated rather suddenly and he said it is something they do occasionally as a 'surprise'.
I was left wondering what it is that warrants some guests receiving these extra goodies and not us. We are regular Disney customers, albeit in the US not in Paris. It was our first time at DLH and the Castle Club. We booked direct with Disney even though it was slightly more expensive than through a travel agent, which meant Disney did not have to pay any commission.
To add insult to injury, one day I met a housekeeper heading along a corridor carrying a vase of roses just like those I'd seen photos of online, and another day I saw a similar vase of roses sitting on the floor outside a room just like you'd see discarded room service trays!
Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed our stay immensely. DLH is a lovely hotel and the location unbeatable at DLP. It's just we paid almost as much for 2 nights there this weekend as we did for a week at Wilderness Lodge earlier in the year. And, although I know it's daft, the lack of those goodies is the one thing that has made me feel short-changed.
