Hello! My family is scheduled for our 2nd Disney Cruise next summer. This time we are members of the Castaway Club. Our information states that we are invited to a reception. When does this reception occur and can we wear our shorts & t's or is their a dress code??

I love this board and appreciate everyones help!!! THANKS!

The reception time and location varies, so you need to check specifically. You should get a little card (invitation) in your stateroom identifying the time and place. And there's no specific dress code for the reception. Shorts and t-shirts are probably fine.

The Castaway Club party is very casual. We usually just wear shorts. They have finger foods and free drinks (both alcoholic and non). The captain and the cruise director usually each make a brief speech and then mingle with the guests, along with other senior staff members. It is a nice event. They will leave an invitation in your room announcing the date. It is usually in Rockin' Bar D on the Magic or Wavebands on the Wonder.

If only some of the cabin's occupants are Castaway Club members and the stateroom reservation is not in their name, will they still get the party invitation?

The Castaway Club benefits are linked to the reservation - but everyone's name has to be listed so it would seem that if your name is there it would flag in the computer....hmmm...might be a question to ask your TA or DCL (depending on how you booked) to check and make a note if necessary.

We have been to the CC party several times and EVERYONE in your party is included in the invitation even if they are not specifically CC members.

I asked on more than one occasion and was told the same thing. All they do is collect the invitation at the door. If I can recall individual names are not listed on the invitations.

We had 3 cabins and 2 cabins were CC members and the last cabin were first time cruisers....they were allowed to go to the reception.

This thread brought up interesting points with regard to my reservation, so I just called to clarify.

We have two rooms - #1 - my husb & I - both repeat cruisers, #2 - my mom (never cruised DCL) & my son (13 yo, repeat cruiser, but his name is secondary on the reservation).

The CM said that there will NOT automatically be a CC member gift or an invitation to the reception because my mom is first on the reservation because of my son's age. She said we had to specifically request it, AND they must put in the computer that my mom is the repeat cruiser (even though she's not) & then there will be a note on the page stating that it is actually my son.

Also, she said that my mom could use my son's invitation if he chose not to go to the reception.

In 5 cruises I have never once been asked for my invitation.Where do they collect them?
IMHO the party was not all it was cracked up to be.Our first 2 receptins were small and cozy and there was a officr at each table it seemed. The last 3 we were herded in like cattle and there wasn't enough tables for people. We never even got the free drink last time because the servers were still busy. My dh skipped it because he felt it wasn't worth going to.
Also I thought it was interesting that someone commented on it being casual. In my experience we have always dresse or dinner before the party and never felt out of place so I would imagine a lot people do dress for it. Just an FYI I am sure it is not required.

Our invitation was left on our "mail box" outside our stateroom.......on our first "return sailing" we didn't see it 'till the day after:( It was on Monday on our Eastern last November........I think it was at around 5:00p.m. and finger food and "foofy drinks". It was casual, but if you are "early seating" you may have to go in your dinner attire.......that's why we book late seating.

On the Magic last week the reception was very nice, excellent food, and multiple offers of drinks. People were dressed in everything from swimwear to suit & tie. I really felt appreciated, and in turn appreciated the effort made to hold these events. BTW, Captain Thord noted that DCL averages 700 repeat cruiser each week.

I read where you said in the past the castaway club reception was in the rockin d' lounge. Is it a NON-SMOKING event? I am only interested in activities that My entire family can attend, and I am not taking my family into a cigarette smoke fest.

Thanks for the info...

Are there kids at this event? Would a 6 year old be bored? He is very interested in ships and would probably enjoy meeting the captain.

Thanks,
Tink

Yes children are welcome. My dds loved meeting the capt.
