So I was gathering the documents for our next cruise and discovered the Castaway Club membership card I received way back when, after our first Disney cruise. I've never carried it with me, or shown/been asked to show it. Is there any reason to carry it or have access to it, or is knowing one's CC ID number sufficient?

I've never had to carry/show my membership card. I've never had to enter it when making reservations. The system just "knows" I have one and applies it where necessary.

Knowing the number (or having the card) is only useful for those times that the DCL system breaks down and doesn't recognize me any longer.

Never had a card, just the number. I just put the number into my password program so that I can give it to my TA without having to log in.

The number on my card doesn't match the actual number Disney uses.
Do you mean the number that displays when you go to your Castaway Club account on the DCL site? It should match. If it doesn't I'd have them check it out. Or, maybe you got a new castaway club number (for some reason).
