Hi!

On our second cruise, DH and I received Castaway Club lanyards. We thought it was super useful and would like my MIL and FIL to have some for their first cruise.

Although I would love to be able to buy lanyards for them before we go on our trip, I was wondering if my husband and I would receive new lanyards when we go back?

(We could give them our "old lanyards" --they still look brand new-- to make sure they have some?)

Thanks in advance.

I believe you do get new lanyards each time based on a thread I had previously read (only the Castaway Club members will receive them). As you said you can certainly give your family members the old ones.

You can definitely do that. We received a new set on cruises 2-4.

After your first cruise you rceive a new lanyard for each cruise. When we did our B2B in December we received lanyard for each cruise.

We don't actually use our CC lanyards as lanyards though -- we hang it on the bathroom door and use it to hold an old hotel room card that we use in the "turn power on" slot :-) Our preferred lanyard is a nice lanyard and card holder that DCL sells on the ship: the lanyard itself is a soft, comfortable material, and the card holder holds more than just the card, it opens up and you can put some small additional items in it. I find it much more comfortable and it is better able to stay in place than the flimsier CC lanyard: http://cdn.s7.disneystore.com/is/image/DisneyShopping/7511002522187?$yetidetail$

It's pretty!!

I have to admit, i tie up my lanyard to my belt... Or around my wrist.

That's a great idea. We used an old WDW card for the power card but didn't know where to leave it so ended up bringing it with us anyway.

I was confused about the lanyards on our last cruise. There was one 1 gold Castaway Club person, 2 silver and 1 newbie. I thought I read somewhere that everyone in the cabin is treated like the highest CC level and figured that we would all get gold lanyards. I was wrong.:rolleyes1 Gold got a gold, silver got silver and the newbie got nothing. Ended up having to buy a lanyard when there were so many at home. :headache:

I'd bring old key cards (for power) but I'm scared to mix them up with the new ones.

That is why I use a hotel key card. On our december trip we used the card from the Hyatt at MCO airport, which we stayed at the night before the cruise.

We are now collecting hotel key cards -- one so we can choose a distinctive one to bring and use on cruises, and the other reason because my sister found a really neat art project that uses them, so we are amassing some for it.

One trick: get some magnetic tape and put it on the back of the old key card. The wall above the slot for the key card to switch on the electricity in the room, is metal. So any magnet will stick to it. We got an old WDW ticket with a magnetic tape attached to it from our TA in our cruise document package and I thought it was brilliant. If you left the room, just stick it to the wall above the slot and when you come back, there it is!

We just used an old store loyalty card that I had in my wallet for the power slot, it doesn't need to be a KTTW card. We left it on a closet shelf right across from the switch when we went out.

Love that idea! Totally going to use it on our next cruise.

We got new lanyards every trip/

and we bring an old Disney gift card for the power. Write used on the back and just leave it in the slot. Sometimes the cabin steward pulls it up a bit, but often just leaves it.

How are the CC lanyards these days? We are silver. It has been a few years, but the ones they gave us were scratchy and unfinished on one side and the plastic thing was cheapy. ( we still got excited and appreciated them) but I am wondering if I should bring some other, better versions, from my drawer full of random lanyards. One of the kids' former school lanyards was a smooth nylon ribbon type and was much more comfortable on the skin. Has DCL changed to s non scratchy version, by any chance?

The plastic is still cheapy. Though I noticed that mine didn't break this time. There is also a clasp that is newish and the designs are larger. But I don't remember the actual material being different. Seemed more silky to me. Just bring a few random ones they take up ounces in your luggage.

I've read about European hotels having this keycard power switch but never ran into one here in the states. I was on the wonder in February and my room didn't have one, but this thread is reading like they are in use on disneys ships

What ships, if any are these on?

Is it just because I have an inside room with no windows that they don't do the keycard switch?

Good to know. I also thought everyone was treated like the highest CC level.
