Castaway Cay Snorkeling Water Depth

Ok, so are we talking just regular snorkel gear that can purchased at Walmart? And, if you bring your own, do you just go a "snorkel area" and go in, or do you check in somewhere? Also, is there a CM in the snorkel area that "patrols it", and is the area sectioned off, or is it open ocean? Thanks in advance.

Thought I saw it posted as more. We bring our equipment with us so I never really paid attention to the price.

Pretty much. Yes, there is a designated area of the beach that is for snorkelers. Theres no check in or out, and there are lifeguards every 100 feet or so, in stands(they have a surf board if they need it) and on the beach. The entire area is open to the ocean, but they do have nets up to keep out the bigger more agressive species of sea life. There is also a rope barrier, to separate it from the family beach, but they are next to each other. On occasion, you will see a barracuda,(Barry-hes a regular) but I have yet to hear of anyone that has had an issue with him.Last year, there was a baby stingray playing in the surf just off the beach.

The snorkel lagoon is just a part of the larger lagoon that makes up the beach front on the "dock" side of the island. This entire lagoon is "protected" by a net to keep "large" wild-life out. The "adult" side of the island is open water (no nets).

The entrance to the snorkel lagoon is just another section of the open beach. If you have your gear, you just walk on into the water.

You can use what ever snorkel gear you wish... or none at all... except for the snorkel vest that DCL REQUIRES! You do not have to rent the vests, they have stacks of them right on the beach for you to pick one up as you enter the water.

The only ones that have to "check-in" are those that have to go pick up their rented snorkling gear.

We have our own snorkel & mask, but we usually borrow fins when on vacation. Do you know if we can borrow fins at CC or do we need to pay the $25 just for those?
I am hoping my DS (6) will be willing to go out there w/me.

Ive seen it both ways, where they charge you for just the fins, which is a separate price sorry I dont remember what it is off hand, and Ive also seen it where they just hand you the fins. I know that the vests are free.I guess its luck of the draw

Okay thanks. I don't mind paying something to rent the fins, just not the whole $25.
