Castaway Cay security? Private boats ever land on the island?

Good question since the ships registry is the Bahamas does that mean the US cost guard won't help if there is an emergency??? I realy don't know the answer i just know what i've been told...

Castaway Cay is only what Disney calls their property on the island known as Gorda Cay which is Bahamian territory. Disney buying some land does not make it US soil.

The US Coast Guard does not provide security for CC - I say this based on the fact I was Captain of a CG Cutter that patrolled the area. The RBDF defends the Bahamas. Now should they ask for help; in a specific event.....things could change. Occasionally the US helps counties neededing help :rolleyes1

The USCG performs medical evacuations through out the Carib' and Bahamas on a nearly daily basis...ship and land sourced, doesn't matter what flag the ship flies. Why? Because the US tax payer is a nice person.....but there is no promise that USCG will be able to perform this function. IF there is a helo in range ..... IF the problem is deemed serious enuf by the flight surgeon that gets the call....these factor into the equation. I've launched the helo off my ship's flight deck to perform these missions. If we weren't there, what then??????

Gorda Cay WAS a major drug trans-shipment point. Disney did not build the runway as a 'feature'. Disney did try to build around it. Think about it. Someone built a runway on an uninhabited island in the late 70's to early 80's...:confused3 .... nooooooo officer, I've no IDEA what this is doing here.

Wanna buy a bridge?

Actually, if you read the article on the first page, it sounds like the runway was built by the author's grandfather, the original owner, before the drug traffickers arrived.

It live 60 people on the island during wikipedia.

More like 120. Was just there on Wednesday and spoke to a lifeguard who is a partyl of that group.

DCL has added the Dream and the Fantasy to their fleet since this thread was started. Castaway Cay is getting a lot more use, so it's only natural they'd expand their number of crew members on the island.

The CM's that stay on the island are mostly to clean and repair any damage from guests or weather or just plain wear and tear. Also to assist docking when a ship comes in, they also maintain the sanitary facilities on the island. When a ship is in port the significant majority of the CM's working on the island are crew from the ship, that supplement the island staff, such as all the food services are manned by ships crew, as well as other spots as needed. That way DCL can maintain a lower number of staff that actually live on the island full time. I don't know about security but I would imagine any boat approaching the island would think twice about beaching if they are aware of people already present on the island.

OR

a boat from where?

This is not a place you are gonna stumble upon while looking for a waterside bar on a day out from where you trailer your boat.
