Castaway Cay Port Adventures Question

Hello everyone, I was thinking about doing either the parasailing or the guided watercraft port adventure on Castaway Cay. I was wondering on the watercraft excursion would this be too hard for a person in their 60's? I saw a video and it looked like the person was rubbing their hands like it they were hurting. I was also wondering if there are 2 people on the watercraft how comfortable that would be if the water is rough. I was also wondering about the parasailing and how people liked it if they were afraid of heights, crazy I know. I am the chicken on this one but I still wanted to go. One last question about both of the excursions, did they have openings in the morning or was it only in the afternoon. Thank you for your help!

Can't answer on the parasailing but DW and I absolutely loved the jet ski trip. It is a fairly intense ride, however, they will pace themselves for the group. They have folks there to lead it, someone at the back of the group, and other boats out there along the way. They stop mid way and allow you to get off and they'll point out different sea life, etc.

I would highly suggest making sure you book the first ride of the day as it does get rougher as the day progresses. Both of these excursions do get cancelled often due to the wind. Don't feel like you'll be holding them up as they are used to having folks with little experience. It was definitely one of our favorite things we've done!

We finally did the parasailing when we were both over 60. My husband, typically not enamored of heights, thought it was fine. The biggest issue with it was the rough ride in the tow boat the participants not up in the air go through. The boat has to go really fast, and basically bounce from wave to wave. You have to hold on tight so as not to fall on others in the boat. That said, I'd probably do it again, and I'm well over 60 now.

The parasailing is fun. My brother was a little bit afraid but he said once he got up there and saw the views he didn't think so much about his fear. Jet ski trip is great, took me a while to get used to the controlling it and once I did I didn't want to stop. I did feel safe tho as there's a person at the back, although I felt bad cause I felt like a major slow poke in the first half.

I've done the personal watercraft a few times (in my 50's) and had a variety of experiences. On one trip when I was riding by myself, there were some big rolling waves and I ended up with torn blisters on my thumbs from holding on tight as I bounced across the tops of the waves so I can appreciate the person rubbing their hands like they were hurting. On another trip when I rode double with my son, it was really rough and in addition to bouncing hard from wave to wave, we managed to drive through and not over the waves a few times. My son was holding on tight to me and didn't really enjoy the ride. The operators of the excursion actually cancelled all of the groups after us due to the roughness of the ocean that day. Just to reassure you, I have had some good experiences too. Twice I have gone by myself when the ocean was almost like glass and that was when it was the most enjoyable as you could really zip across the water.

Unless things have changed, it was getting on the jetski that was the challenge. You have to pull yourself up onto the back of the craft.

I had no problems with the parasail.

I was big, not old. If you are reasonably able-bodied, you could do either.

But the jetski activity has a history of being unavailable, whereas you see others hanging in the sky.
