Castaway Cay overnight

If I'm not mistaken Castaway is not setup for night time usage. Would they be required to undock and redock? I know in the past the Dream has had Castaway double dips but they were on separated days. Are these truly back to back days on Castaway?

Odds are very high that you'll sail around for the night and then dock again in the morning. As others have said, there are reasons and restrictions as to why there are not overnights on the island that have always been in place. If they were removed, why not let the other double dips stay too?

Generally if there is an overnight somewhere it is stated in the itinerary. Like when I sailed RCCL on a 12-night Med/Venice cruise Venice was overnight and was listed as such - "Venice (overnight)".

Apparently the midges are awful after sunset there anyway.
I believe another issue is whether, if they stay docked overnight, whether they'd be able to leave the next day. Much like doing an overnight in Cabo. The seas/weather the second day could mean the ship can't leave. Of course, if that were to happen the ship would probably not be able to dock the second day. But the ship would be at sea and able to finish the cruise on time.

If they were overnighting at CC for the first time it would be front and center of the announcements. Given the premium that they would be able to charge for it, especially for the privilege of being on the first cruise to do it, I don't think they would leave that information buried.

We docked overnight at Castaway Cay on the Disney Dream for our very first cruise.

It was a 5 night double dip over New Year's.
Cruise departed Port Canaveral on December 28th, 2012.

It wasn't a planned overnight but high winds were expected the morning of our Castaway Cay day.
The Captain decided to bring the ship in the night before and dock to make sure we wouldn't miss out on spending our day at Castaway Cay.

We were very grateful that happened and loved our view of the island overnight as we were staying 5E aft.

I’m almost certain there was an overnight at CC in the early days of DCL (2000ish). It may have been the first DVC cruise, and there was a bonfire party and dinner served at Cookie’s. Certainly it was a logistical nightmare, with the minimal lighting and bugs and all DCL quickly learned their lesson.

Pretty sure I remember reading about it on the America On-Line DCL boards back then!

Actually I think this is the best point. They would not want to bury something like that because they could charge top dollar right out of the gate with that information out there.

Big difference between HAVING to and CHOOSING to.

As @NS8VN pointed out, they did not say overnight and given how hyper people are about wanting to stay overnight there is no way that would not have been part of the announcement because they could pretty much set the rates at whatever they wanted and people (at least based on their "I'd pay anything to stay overnight" claims) would pay it. Why deny themselves that kind of money by NOT making it known up front it was a planned overnight.

Are you sure that was DCL? I think when Premier was partnered with Disney before DCL they would overnight at Great Guana Cay. That would have been in the mid-90's.

We docked overnight at Castaway Cay on the 1/8/18 Dream. There was a run Disney 5K event in the early morning and the Captain said because of weather we would dock overnight - we pulled in around 8 PM the night before - it was pretty neat being there overnight although we couldn’t get off the ship of course.

I did the first two runDisney Castaway Cay Challenge races. If I remember correctly, we docked around midnight both times, so that they could do the setup for the race in the morning. For the Challenge 5K, we were off the ship while still dark. The did the runDisney 5K early, then had the regular free 5K afterwards for the "regular" guests.

I've seen a few cases like this here on the DIS. However, even though the ship docks overnight, guests aren't allowed off the ship until the next morning, per usual.

We did a cruise one time with CC being on two consecutive days. Left CC as usual on the first day and then return the next morning as a brand new day. The ship does not stay overnight at the island except maybe if there was some kind of a problem.
