We have a single friend who will be travelling with us in her own cabin. I would like to purchase a massage on Castaway Cay for her for a surprise Christmas gift (the cruise is 1-3 - 1-10). First of all, how much does a massage cost - are there different packages? Do I have to board early and get in line to purchase the massage - how does that work? Would I be better off just getting her something at the spa? I need some advice. Thanks!!

My wife, mother-in-law and I did the CC massages in 2002. The price was about $100 each but it has probably changed since then so I can't help you on that issue. I can say, however, that we all loved the massages. It is a totally different experience than inside the spa (which is nice too). The open air windows and the view and sound of the water really made for an extremely pleasant experience. That being said, I have heard from others on the board that they were bothered by noisy beachgoers or "talky" people in nearby cabanas. I can see how that would take away from the experience. Of course, I have also heard from others that they were bothered by the sound of bouncing basketballs above the massage rooms and, more recently, that they found parts of the spa to be in a bit of disrepair. So, I guess there are no guarantees. I would suggest going for the CC massage mainly because it is such a unique experience. Just be aware that these massages go very quickly. so you will need to board early and go directly to make reservations.

I hope everything turns out great with whatever you choose!
