after reading a fellow disser's son's report for the kayak excursion, i've booked this for our upcoming cruise.
has anyone else done this excursion?
does anyone have any photos they took while on this excursion?

That's proably my son's report. I asked him and he said they really discourage cameras - both hands are pretty busy inside the kayak and there is always the chanced of tipping over. I, too, though would like to see pictures so I can see what he raved about.

I'll ask the other two who went with him to chime in and see if they have any pix.

Our family of 5 went and I had my own kayak and our underwater camera hanging around my neck. The kayak is a little bit of a work-out for a single trying to get the occasional photos.

Our photos included a blue crab, starfish, konk shells, and poor photos of sting rays from above the water.

The guide, whose name escapes me right now, is great. She went into the bushes and brought out this blue crab. (It might be a seasonal thing.)

Have fun!

tadsdaddy, did you enjoy the excursion? do you think its worth missing 3 hours of castaway cay on our first ever visit?

Yes, the excursion is great. I've done it twice. Once with my wife and once with the whole family. You get to see a part of Castaway Cay you would not otherwise see. The guide is great and she'll do her best to spot sharks or sting rays in the water. (The sharks are harmless but I forget what kind.) I think this is one of the most underrated excursions at Castaway Cay, but it takes some energy. You have to be in a little bit of shape for the walk and kayaking. If you're not in decent shape, at least get an energetic kayak partner. :thumbsup2

If there was one thing I would improve about this excursion, it would be to provide back straps for the kayaks. I personally prefer a little more back support to lean against when I kayak.

We also like the package with the bikes, snorkeling and tubes. That combination makes for a full and active day in itself. I also like the Jet Skis, which take you away from the island a couple miles to Gordo Bank.

I did the kayak adventure as a single and thought it was not hard at all. I did get a few pixs with a cheap water camera, but the 8 foot shark was just to fast for me to get a photo. Elroy, one of the guides, took off after the shark and found another. I saw starfish (even held one), stingray, conch with live animal inside, sand dollars, some other shells (I don't know the name) and some fish. I went a couple weeks ago.

have you got any photos to share?
