Has anyone done the glass bottom boat excursion at Castaway Cay? I think it's fairly new. I've not heard good things about the ones in Nassau, but was wondering about Castaway. How many people, is it crowded, did you get to see good stuff, etc.

We plan to snorkel but, given that we're going at the end of Jan. and it might be too cold, we thought we'd book the boat so maybe we could at least see some fish, if the snorkeling didn't pan out. Any thoughts?

I did this. It's okay, but I wasn't overly thrilled by it.

The boat has two wells with windows at the bottom. They're surrounded by metal railings for you to lean on. There's really no seating besides a couple of small benches up front. The people who sat there had to really lean over to see anything. The rest of us stood the entire time.

It was interesting to hear a bit of history about Castaway and the Bahamas. We stopped at a coral reef. The guide threw oatmeal overboard and a school of fish came up to feed on it. The "big" attraction was a brain coral.

The fumes from the boat were strong. I saw some ladies covering their noses.

On the way back, we stopped to look at a reef that's forming.

We did this last week. We definitely do NOT recommend this tour. This is a waste of money, as far as we are concerned. The vendors seemed very nice, however, the area of the reef was not intreresting at all. Very little plant, animal, or fish life to observe.

This was a complete waste of an excursion.
