Castaway Cay 5k

After doing the CC5K on my last 3 cruises, I didn't do it on Friday during cruise #4. Instead I got up early and pounded out a few miles on a treadmill...figures that the one time I didn't do the CC5K, Castaway experienced overcast, slightly cool weather...

...ANYWAY, it was SO nice to not do the 5K. I got off the ship around the same time the runners did and headed right to the beach - rode both of the Pelican Plunge slides for the first time ever since there was no line, and got some nice empty beach pictures. I'll only do the race again if they change the medal (right now I have 2 of the plastic Mickey medals and one rubber medallion from July of this year).

As an aside...our all-ashore time was 9:45AM, which seemed crazy late to me - not sure if this is their new time going forward or if it's just for the fall months? In July it was 8:30, and even then I still thought that was way too late for the 5K to start...starting at 9:45 in July would have been even more brutal.

We did it on the WBTA this year (September). DH trained beforehand and I - who hadn't run in 2.5 years - decided to "train" on the ship.

It was hot. It was sometimes hard to breathe. It was soooooo worth it to get that medal.

Would we do it again. In a heartbeat.

My son and I did it in April. We did it just for the novelty of it, just to say we did it. Neither one of us are runners and we did it with no training before hand. We would do it again. Some others expressed concern that it takes away from doing other things. I didn't feel that way at all. It started I think at 9:00 and we were done running by 9:30. I guess if you walked the course it would take longer and maybe cut into your "island time". We don't do excursions so I can't compare to that, but we still had plenty of time to do things we normally do. And yes, it was HOT!

I've ran it 8 or so times. I love it and wouldn't miss it. It is just so special and unusual. I don't feel like it cuts into the island time at all, in fact, it is part of the island time. It seems to keep getting bigger and bigger every time we run it. It's definitely not hot every time, I've ran it on cool days.

FYI, The shorter cruises on the Dream usually dock at CC earlier than the 7-nights, so the CC5K on the Fantasy doesn't usually begin before 9:30AM. Have a great cruise! pirate:
