Not sure if I should post this thread here or in the WISH section but I'll try it here.

Is the Castaway Cay 5K (regular race, NOT the Challenge) held on all trips to the Castaway Cay Island? Thanks in advance!

Yes. If you do a search there is a really long thread.

In short, Yes. But I have heard rumors that it only takes place on 1 CC day on double dips. Doing my first double dip in June, so I'll be able to confirm or deny that rumor then.

On our double dip in October they had it both days. Which I believe is usual. I've seen one report of it being held just one day since then. Seems to be a fluke.

Be forewarned that this race can be brutal if the heat and humidity are high. My family ran the race this past April with temps in the high 80's and high humidity. At points, we had to stop and walk because it was difficult to breathe. We had trained for a couple of months beforehand but were unprepared for the humidity. CMs on the ship were warning Florida runners before the race that the humidity and heat would be worse than anything they had experienced running in Florida.

I live and run in southeast FL. Sometimes the humidity here is in the 80% range and feels like you are breathing hot stew or suffocating. My time is definitely slower when it is really humid. I often come home take my shoes and socks off and jump in the pool fully clothed LOL!!!

We just walked it the last time we were there - very relaxing and we got to stop and explore the various areas along the way.

One big requirement is that the boat dock on-time, though. If the seas are rough or winds too high where the boat takes a while to dock, they won't run the race. We were told it is because you really, really don't want to be running at any time other than first thing in the morning due to the heat and humidity.

Do you need to sign up ahead of time or just show up? My daughter and I would like to do this on our Christmas cruise and then come back in 2017 and do the WDW 5K.

You can sign up at Port Adventures or Guest Services when you get on board the ship. I had heard there was a limit on participants (200 maybe?) but on our cruise, they were letting people sign up the morning of the race.
