Cleaning up a few old files and trying to complete the move from the old computer to the new (a process started in October). I found the TCX file for the 5k held while in port at Castaway Cay. I never imported the data into mapmyrun due to the extreme graininess of the satellite layer and no road data on the street layer. I decided to search the island using the OpenRoad layer in mapmyrun and woohoo, all public (guest) street data is there.

For those who may be taking a cruise it is a nice and flat course. bring a water bottle if needed. We are returning in June and I am looking forward to bettering the sluggish 27:44 I had on my Valentines Day 09 run.

I did the run in May 2009 and it was a good time. It makes the buffet later in the day less guilty feeling.

I did that run 2 Decembers ago. It was very pretty and hot!
I plan on doing it again when I go on the new ship in August.
I'll be in full training mode for the Disneyland 1/2 marathon (to get my coast to coast medal).
I should probably run it at least 2 times.:rotfl:

This coming weekend will be my first cruise and I definitely have the 5K on my list of to-do's. :) Thanks for sharing!

We ran the Castaway Cay 5K last week (2/8), and they changed the course. It no longer starts near the ship. Rather, it starts at the bike rental place. Run through the biking loop and then to end of runway...then reverse and run through biking loop again and end at bike rental.

I question whether it was actually 3.1 miles. While I am capable of running 8 minute miles, I found my 7:50 times to be somewhat unlikely. The CM (Matt) said that it was the first time they were trying the new route.

It was fun to do, and definitely needed in the middle of a cruise!

I wore my Garmin and it came out to be about 3.08 when I ran it this past weekend. Some of it is subject to interpretation, such as when you make the left off the path from the bike rental place onto the airstrip. You could cut some distance or add some distance depending on how you make that turn. More distance could be added or removed depending on where exactly you turn around at the end of he airstrip.

We're going on the Dream in October and I'm excited about running the 5k! I know from our last cruise that running on the boat was NOT one of my favorite activities! Too much motion for this seasick susceptible person!
