Cast members still taking Sedsema/Propins?

I heard a rumor that cast member's weren't accepting sedsema pins anymore. Any notice of this in the parks?

To be completely honest, I have three groups of pins:

1) Keepers - I keep in a binder or on display
2) Traders - I regester on pinpics and trade with other collecters
3) Sedsemas - I buy these online, because they're inexpensive, then trade with the cast members at WDW for other keepers/traders.

Don't get me wrong, there are a few of the sedsemas that I like. I have a few in my "keeper" folder, but paying $5 or more for a pin I'm going to trade away seems economically pointless to me. It seems, though, that I may have to rethink my strategy.

(I've had people jump on my back about "clogging CM lanyards with inferior pins", but I don't see how it's any different than all the "cuties" or "toddler princess" pins that every CM seems to have a full set of.)

Anyway, it's worked for me for the past 5 or so years. Any information from someone who's been recently?

Cast members will take them, as they are valid Disney pins. But generally Sedesma and Propins are shunned and unwelcome in the pinhead* community as an inferior product. But as with anything you collect, if it you like it, and it fits your collection, there is nothing wrong in having them.

*a term of endearment, of course :goodvibes

yes they are still taking those pins - they were everywhere on lanyards a few weeks ago - I heard so many CMs complain about them and appreciated that I was trading them nice pins. One CM told me she refreshes her lanyard regularly with cm's hidden mickey pins and tosses out all those propins/sedsema pins

I don't know how much you are paying for your pins but I had no problems picking up some nice traders for $1.50 - $2 from ebay - if you want to pm me I can give you the names of some great sellers

or look at my post here for $2 pins you can buy from disneyshopping.com today (June 19th)

A Little OT, but:
When I buy the "nicer" pins on ebay, I usually get about 1 scrapper in every 10 pins. (They're easier to spot if they're in a group of "Disneys".) I have, however, accepted this as fate and usually break off the pin back and decorate things with the pin art - glue them to cookie jar lids, make magnets out of them, etc.

Thanks everyone for the info. DParents are going to WDW for the first time by themselves in September, and I wanted to get them some pins to trade. I had ordered 20 or so Sedsemas and can now give them away knowing the CMs will take them.

Sedesmas are usually (though not always) stamped onto black metal, instead of the usual silver or gold. Also, they say "Sedsema" on the back. It's easy to tell without these details, because instead of "filling in" the colored sections of the pin, it's just "stamped" on there. A sedesma pin is almost immediatly noticeable, because of the lower quality.

For example, here is the Nemo pin sold in the parks:

Here is the same Nemo pin made by Sedesma:

They both say "(c)Disney" on the back and are both tradeable in the parks, but it's an easy guess as to which one a serious collecter would rather have.

Can you also say why Euro Disney pins are not tradable when Disneyland Paris pins are?

This is the first I've heard of that. When we went in January. I saw a few EuroDisney pins on CM lanyards. Unless it's a recent development, and they've just started doing it, I have no idea why they wouldn't take them. Some CM's are picky about taking Sedesmas as well, but I've only had 2 that wouldn't trade with me. (Last trip, DH and I traded over 150 pins in 5 days. We kept all but a dozen or so.)

Also, "EuroDisney" as a pin term sometimes refers to Sedesmas (from Spain) and ProPins (from germany). That may be why people don't want to trade them.

I had one CM refuse to take a Sedesma from my daughter last week. We did not bring it but she had traded for it earlier in the week and decided she did not want it. I had not even noticed it until she went to trade it and the CM wouldn't take it.

I am times wish CM's would turn away all the sedesma pins, just to keep the quality up a bit. Some folks buy some rack pins or good starter sets at WDW and it can be kind of frustrating when CM's lanyards are loaded with sedesma pins etc. Oh yeah, I wish they would do away with all the cutie, toddler, abd baby pin sets. There are just way too many of those on CM lanyards. UGH!!:headache:
