On e-bay, we bought a Poly CM shirt and a blank 100 YoM CM Name Tag. Anyone know if we can actually wear these while at WDW, or will we be asked to remove them; or worse, would they be taken away? We love them, but would not want to cause a problem, and would rather leave them home than cause any ugliness.

TIA:sunny:

Neither of those items is available to buy, not even by Cast Members. Even CMs have to go through channels to order name tags, which come pre-engraved with their name and favorite Disney memory or hometown. Blank tags are not available. Costumes are NOT the property of the cast members. They are issued for use and should be returned to Costuming when a CM leaves the company or transfers.

Therefore, the items you bought on E-bay are essentially stolen property from WDW. Whoever sold the items did not have the right to sell them. I don't think it would be a good idea to wear them on property.

Or, they'd throw a broom in your hand & put you to work!:p

You could also have other guests running up to you looking for help, or complaining! :teeth:

They may not be stolen...I have seen WL CM's jackets...if the CM "lost" their jacket...they could not turn it in!!

I know that CM's face BIG TROUBLE if they sell their tags online...I purchased a Cat Member only pin ( which is legal ) and on of the CM's saw it and told me that they were cracking down on people selling their old name tags because it is a security issue!

I would not wear the uniform or tag...it is just not worth the risk.

Enjoy them at home but I wouldn't wear them at WDW. There is a dress code and I am sure if you weren't following it you would be approached. If you want to keep the items leave them home.

Why do you wear an old CM uniform/nametag on vacation? I don't think the Polynesian would be too pleased to see guests running around impersonating their employees.

I was thinking/wondering the same thing. Why would you want to wear a hotel uniform on vacation? I love the GF but I wouldn't want one of their uniforms, and I certainly wouldn't wear it while I was staying there. I can't imagine why you would want to.

Actually, the "uniform" for this Poly CM is a beautiful Hawaiian-style shirt which fits my 10yoDD. I personally wouldn't want to wear anyone's uniform, and certainly would never "impersonate" anyone, but this is lovely on my DD and she enjoys dressing to the theme of the resort. I don't know if anyone else has tried to find a nice hawaiian shirt for a 10yo girl, but it ain't easy!

And as far as the name tags go, we are sort-of neophyte pin-collectors and thought it would make a neat addition to our collection. Just wondering if it was "legal" to wear them in WDW. We will get them personally engraved at our local trophy shop and leave them on our "stay home" lanyards.

So disappointed to feel so harshly judged. I was just asking a question.
:(

I won't get into the flaming, I think it is a better idea to leave them home. You can buy very nice Hawaiian shirts for kids from Hilo Hatties (on line at hilohattie.com). And in the Polynesian, there is at least one store that sells themed clothing for children (non resort branded). I have had guests ask me questions when I was wearing my Guest of Honor Badge on a lanyard. Fortuneately, I knew the answer! I also attended Disney Institute seminars and they gave us name tags to wear. We would be on "field trips" in the parks and guest would approach us and ask stuff, too.

Have a great trip, anyway. And best of luck finding your child the perfect Polynisian outfit.

Say hi to Mickey for me, too!

Iloveeeyore...don't sweat it. How would you ever know that Disney owns all the cast member uniforms? You obviously had no idea and it is a shame that some people want to give you a hard time. I was a former college program CM and I kept my name tag even thought I wasn't supposed to because it was a great memory. I hardly think the Disney police will be after you or your daughter. Enjoy your little piece of Disney!!!!:earsboy:

A friend of mine, who worked for Disney for 7 years just gave me a Downtown Disney Pleasure Island Cast Member shirt. :sunny: I swear, it's in perfect condition. I believe she said she wore it on New Year's Eve 2000 when they had everyone out "on stage". Normally, she worked as a training coordinator. Maybe I'll put it on and see if I can get in. ;) (believe me, I am JUST KIDDING! )

My DD also brought home her WDW college program name badge. They asked if she wanted to keep it and of course she did. While you are at WDW, you can go to the Christmas store at Downtown Disney and have a name badge made. It costs about $5 and they have a choice of blanks to choose from. They make wonderful souvenirs to take to friends and family members who don't go to WDW.

Not trying to be mean or harsh, but it is definetly a security issue...please don't wear them to WDW. :)

I don't think the OP was judged harshly. He/she asked for opinions about wearing a Disney uniform and name tag to WDW.

FYI, I saw children's Hawaiian shirts at Target just the other day.

I wouldnt wear it at WDW, I have seen someone have a jacket from the HM and the management confiscated it...saying it was, in fact, stolen property.

I would enjoy it at home though...:) dont feel to bad, you didnt know any better!
