I have friends who are insisting on using tickets from friends that are current cast members in Disney. Are those tickets able to get fastpasses 60 days out?

Yes, as long as the CM is on the reservation. Unless its an actual comp ticket (not the main gate where they have to enter with the CM), then the CM does not have to be on the reservation.

The cast member guest passes are only allowed to make fast passes 7 days in advance unless the cast member has a resort reservation. The cast member can only make 4 days of fast passes even with a resort reservation of longer than 4 days. However, if the cast member is giving you their comp passes, you may add them to you MDE and make your fast pass for the day you have the pass.

If the CM’s MDX account is linked to the MDX with the hotel reservation, the CM Passes share the 60-day booking window. The CM has to book the FPs for Guest Passes using their MDX and include the onsite guests in the grouping.

You need to ask if Comp Tickets or Guest Passes will be used. Both can share the open FP window.

Also have them check the Blockout dates if they're using Guest Passes and are visiting before August because MK has quite a few and AK has some. They're good if they're using Comp Tickets.

So do they need to be on the reservation or just linked through friends and family?

The CM probably has her/his own MDX account. That account needs to be linked to the MDX where the onsite reservation is linked.

So link up mdx accounts with CM, (they are guest passes), and at 60 days out the CM will be able to book fastpasses for them

Also, the CM must be the one that makes all FP reservations from their MDE account, no one else in the party can do so.

As previously mentioned, a maximum of four days worth of FPs can be booked on the guest passes.

Also, if they are a Disneyland CM, then they might not be able to get any additional FPs after the first three each day (this seems to vary and I don't know about CMs at other locations).

If they are the "party" tickets that they get at Christmas time, they can assign If they are the "party" tickets that they get at Christmas time, they can assign those to individuals that are linked as family and friends.

Note: With both guest passes and party tickets, the CM must enter the park first and the guests have to follow within about 5 minutes or so.

If they are comp tickets, you can add them to your account just like any other ticket and the CM does not need to be present.

Yes. The CM has to include an onsite guest in the grouping and she can book for the complete group.

Someone posted that on another thread, not knowing if it was true or not I contacted Disney CM relations at WDW and asked. The response was that it was not the case for WDW CMs, they can get more than 3 FPs.

For Disneyland CMs, it seems to be hit or miss, the CM themselves can get a fourth and so on, but the guest passes sometimes can and sometimes can't.

The CM must be part of the reservation, they can't just be linked in, they have to be in one of the rooms.
No; the window opens for the CM and Guest Passes without being on the reservation.

My MDX is linked to the Rumors Mod and whenever he has a 60-day FP window, the CM MainGate and Guest Passes share the booking window.

My CM Comp ticket has a 30-day window due to a coding glitch and when I’m grouped with the CM and the Guest Passes for a FP, the complete group has a 30-day window.

That was definitely not our experience, even tech support told us the CM must be staying in one of the rooms and truly only the CM could book the FPs. I don't know if it is because they are a Disneyland CM or not, but it was a pain.

It would be best to clarify that when booking with Disneyland admission media, it may be different.

But, once the booking window is open, it ‘umbrellas’ over all Profiles with valid ticket media as long as an onsite guest is holding the umbrella for the FP grouping.
