Casmir Polaski Day??

I was pretty sure that we were the only ones who closed our schools for Pulaski Day. I always thought that would be a good time to go to WDW because no other state celebrates Pulaski Day.

I believe Pulaski County, here in Southernmost Illinois, was named after the Count. I don't know the actual significance but I think that is what we were taught in H.S.

Hey dolphindan, my oldest DD has a friend who lives in New Baden. I also remember when I was in H.S. our girls basketball team played Breese Mater Dei. I think that was the school that we placed second to in the state tournament but I'm not positive. We are in Massac County, one of the southernmost counties and right across the river from Paducah, KY.

I don't think we are observing Casimir Pulaski day this year!

So, who knows just who Casmir Polaski is?! Well, here in Illinois he is a famous Polish fellow, so famous that we get a day off from school each year in March...usually the first Monday in the month. Is this holiday celebrated by anyone else...or more importantly, would this be a good week/end to hit WDW.

It's not even celebrated by every district in IL any more. We didn't have Pulaski day off last year and don't this year either. No one outside of IL would celebrate it though since the day was only created to appease the large Polish population in Chicago that were upset about the Italians having Columbus Day and the Irish having St. Patrick's Day. LOL
