I'm about to put in my requests for CSR and was trying to decide between Casitas and Cabanas. I searched the archives, but I was looking for a little more help in deciding.

I don't mind walking a little bit and I was looking for the prettier more relaxing location for 2 adults who will probably spend most of their time until the late evening or early morning out. I found the idea of the Casitas being beautiful to be nice and I also liked the Beach near Cabanas. Any suggestions?

Depending on what you want to be close to, here are some good building choices.

Cabana 9b is close to bus stop 1 and the main building with a short walk to the Dig Site (main pool) over the wooden bridge. Most convenient location and most preferred.

Cabana 8a is close to the Dig Site (and playground) and bus stop 4 with a short walk to the main building. (Closest to the Pool)

Cabana 8b and 9a are in between the 2 above. 9a has a quiet pool and is also a smoking optional building.

Ranchos 7b has a quiet pool, is close to the Dig Site and bus stop 4 with a bit longer walk to the main building. 7b is behind cabana 8a.

Casita 1 is attached to the main building and is very close to the restaurants.

Casita 3 has great courtyard and fountain views but you will have to walk or ride the internal shuttle to get to the pool.

Casita 5 has some nice fountain and lake views and is close to the Dig Site but farther from the main building.

Make your room request as soon as you make your reservation. It’s never too early.

We will be staying for the 7th time this year at CSR (celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary). We have always stayed in Casitas. We've always been happy with them so we have never considered changing to the Ranchos or the Cabanas. We always ask for Casitas 4 or 5 because we like to be near the quiet pool and the spa/fitness center (I always get a massage one day while we are there). Our best friends are going with us and they have requested Ranchos because they like the southwestern look.

We always get a water view in Casitas, and we had a beautiful view of the lake this year as well as a hammock right outside the door just steps away. I averaged about 5 minute walk from our room to El Centro where I went every morning to get coffee and a box of cereal (my DH must have food with a medicaiton he takes in the morning). It was a 5 minute walk from our room to the Dig Site. Now, if my DH was with me, it would probably take closer to 10 minutes because he has shorter legs and walks slower! :rotfl:

We are two adults who were in the Casitas section (9B, I believe), and it was really great, convenient and lovely. We especially enjoyed the hammocks outside. Because of the time we visited, being close to the pool was not really a concern to us. CSR is absolutely lovely, and absolutely huge! All of the sections seemed to have advantages and disadvantages. You will enjoy CSR, I am sure!

Oops, it was the Cabana section, I meant, for 9B, not the Casitas. So sorry!

We stayed in the Cabanas last November, however after walking around the resort, we would prefer the Casita area. That area seemed to fit us a little better. Not even sure I can put my finger on why, but we sure did like that area better.

thanks everybody for your suggestions. Any final thoughts based on shear beauty of the areas between the two?

It seems to me like the walks will be within 5-10 minutes of each other and I don't really mind walking, so I guess the debate for me between casitas and cabanas boils down to which is a prettier more relaxing area.

I'm either going to go for Casitas 4/5 or Cabanas 8/9. At this point I'm leaning towards Casitas 4 as my top choice (courtyards/buildings look pretty), but I keep staring at the photos of the beach with hammocks and then become unable to decide.

The Casitas area is beautiful -- lots of pretty fountains and atmosphere.
The Ranchos area is also pretty in a desert, Palm Springs kind of way. We didn't see much to get excited about in the Cabanas area.
