I plan on renting a car for the drive and I have to take their toll transponder for a daily fee if there are cashless toll roads on the route. Do I have to take this option or can I pay cash along the way? Thanks everyone for any help you can provide with this inquiry.

Currently, the only all cash roadways are in the Miami area. The section of the turnpike from Orlando towards Vero Beach still has the option for cash tolls. There may be a few exits ramps that don't take cash.

erionm, I have a toll question, too. As I drive to FL fairly often, I use the turnpike and Daniel Webster. If I were to purchase a transponder, are the monies on the transponder good forever, so I could go for several trips over 2 to 3 years...or do they expire if not used by a certain date?

Everything I see says that if there's money in the account, the account will remain active and the funds will not expire.

Thank you very much. I don't mind paying for the car but these nickel-and-dime fees drive me nuts.

One recommendation is to use Change/Receipt lanes when present and get a receipt. Also, make sure the receipt has the current date/time and is not a generic toll paid. If the toll was to get charged back to the rental agency, it's easier to get it corrected if you have proof you paid the cash toll.

You can pre-purchase a mini Sunpass online for $5 but then they add the $5 to your toll account so it's really like free. Use scotch tape to stick it to your rental car windshield and then re-use it on future trips.
