Just found out that the Tim Horton's near work has gone cashless. They will not take cash. (It's a kiosk not a full shop)
Supposedly its like this since August but I rarely buy anything,

And a friend who is a bank branch manager was saying her branch is now a cashless service centre. There is an ATM but you can not do any cash transactions with the tellers.

Both of these surprised me.

My bank hasn’t had traditional tellers in years. There are 2 machines in the lobby where you make your deposits or withdrawals. They have one employee at the front for the people who have trouble using the machines or if they act up. They only help you to use the machines.

Not really a big deal. The machines do everything the tellers used to do.

I was at a liquor store yesterday in Dover, DE. Local internet service was out - crews had been working in the area for a few days according to the cashier. Luckily I had enough cash on me to pay for the couple bottles of wine I was buying, and I usually don't have more than $5 or 10 bucks on me. It was a reminder that I need to keep a bit more on me or in my truck for situations such as this.

I'm lucky in that real, live people work in my bank and all the local branches. Same with the banks we use for our business needs.

I won't go to businesses that reject cash because it's weird.

I also won't go to businesses that don't have humans, that is weirder.

Trying to turn the US into one giant cash cow they can empty and give nothing back in salary to any Americans, they can all go pound salt.

Some may play along like lambs, I won't.

The bank has humans lol. They just don't handle cash transactions.
Only cash is at the ATM. I had never heard of a cashless bank branch until while talking my friend was talking about work and mentioned hers being cashless.

And this has nothing to do with the USA as I live in Canada so not sure what you're on about.

Lots of cashless places in the US. Surprised that area is just starting.

First Tim Hortons I’ve encountered that’s cashless but then again I rarely use cash so maybe it’s more common than I think.

Other Canadians - cashless Tim’s in your area?

This topic returns every so often. I have seen a few places that are cashless such as when attending a recent pro golf tournament and the concessions only took credit cards. Makes sense to not have to lock up the cash each night, no need for cash drawers for giving change, concerns about theft/security, etc. Some small kiosk store at the mall might also operate like that for similar reasons. Does that mean we are going to a totally 'cashless society' anytime soon...............ummm probably not.

Those impacted by the recent hurricanes probably still want to buy things even when the power is out for perhaps several days.

Humans will always be needed somewhere.

Occupations will change and humans will adapt.

I do agree that there will always need to be a form of currency for dire situations like natural disasters.

Where are @tvguy and @kdonnel when we need them? :surfweb:
The only Tim Hortons I have been at was in Vancouver 5 years ago and the food was such I won't likely ever be back. I wouldn't have a problem as I have both cash and credit cards (finally got a second card).

I had a rare few loonies and was craving a muffin, I rarely go to Tim’s and was surprised it had gone cashless.

Went back to work and coworker said she found that out couple weeks ago and was surprised too.

What if you need to withdraw an amount that is over the ATM limit?

No idea. I think some brands are cashless service centres now. I don’t bank with that bank (Cibc) and haven’t heard of this before.
Maybe it’s common.

Not that I’ve seen or noticed, but it wouldn’t suprise me.

Maybe it’s because this is a kiosk in an office building rather than a stand alone restaurant.
I’m usually a debit girl!
I just had change from buying Grey Cup tickets with cash!
