Cash top up for reservation

I am shy 18 points to allow me to upgrade a one bedroom reservation to a two bedroom in May 2017. I have been looking on the rent/trade board with no luck so far. Is it possible to pay cash somehow to the resort to make the upgrade?

no, you have to get transferred points with the same resort or wait until 7 mths and buy 1X points from DVC @ $15PP or use transferred points from any DVc resort. you could also book the 2BR and just a 1br the first or last night and hope to be able to change to a 2BR at 7 mths with either of above.

Depending on the resort and view you might be fine waiting until the 7 month mark and getting the one time points from DVC for $15/point. For the time being you could switch as many nights as possible to the 2BR and have the rest in the 1BR until 7 months when you can buy the points and get the rest in the 2BR.

Or - you could see if there are member cash rooms available for the 2BR and book whatever nights you can with your points in the 2BR and finish it with the member cash booking. You could then see at 7 months if you could get those same nights on points and cancel the cash reservation but you'd at least be covered with a room to stay in case there wasn't availability. That same scenario might be possible but booking the cash nights thru CRO if MS did not have availability - that will be dependent on what resort and view though as CRO doesn't have access to all the same ones that members do.

Thank you both so much for all of your advice. I didn't realize you could buy 1X points for $15. I think I'll just wait till the seven month out period and then try to upgrade with rented or transferred points or the one time purchase option.

You can get up to 24 one time use points from DVC so it works for you since you need 18.

If you are in your home resort booking period, why don't you book all but one night, and add one more at the 7 month mark, purchasing the 1X points to use towards it? I believe this should work for you.

That's what I would do and backup the missing night with a cash reservation either same room or another resort.
