Cash reservations w/DVC discount

Can I make a cash reservation with the 25% DVC discount for my aunt and her family, or is the discount only available to DVC members?

The DVC member is supposed to be a guest in the room to get the DVC discount. But it never hurts to ask Member Services.

Can you make a cash ressie any time you book a DVC vacation thru member services? Sorry I was not aware I could do this. Like for example if I wanted to pay for the weekend then use pts for the rest is that possible? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can do a cash and points reservation, we are doing this for Feb 2008, paying cash for the weekend.

You can also make an all cash reservation through MS.

I just changed a reservation...took a Fri off from points..put on cash, but it is full price, no 25% discount. Member Services said the 25% is not always offered. Should I call back? Anyone know??? It is for May 25th.

Wouldn't hurt to call back every so often to see if the discount has become available - you might get lucky.

It's possible it won't - as you know, May 25 is the Friday before Memorial Day so MS may be less inclined to offer the discount. They'll rent for full price if they can.

Thanks. I never knew you could use cash. How dumb am I. That will make our vacas a lot easier. I have always added on at other hotels than checked into our DVC. Now we won't have to move around. Thanks again.

Another question related to this subject, which I'm interested in seeing if anyone can answer:

Specifically, I've heard that the reservation window timetables for cash nights are different than those using points. Supposedly, DVC opens up cash night reservations on a later timetable (usually at least 5 days to a week after the 7/11th month windows open).

Example: Muffy calls MS on a Tuesday, exactly at the 11th month window for her home resort. She is planning on booking a four night stay, but already knows she only has enough available points for a three night stay, so plans on doing the last night for cash.

So on that first day and the next two days, she books using her points. On the fourth day, she calls up and asks to book the last night with cash. MS tells her "we don't know if that night will be available for cash and won't know for at least another 5+ days, so you'll have to keep calling back."

Can anyone confirm if this is true? And if so, is it always the case, or does it vary?
