I don't know why I am randomly thinking of this....

How far in advance can you book a cash reservation through MS? Does it fall under the 7/11 month rule? I know that the discounted rates may not always be available, but I am just curious as to how a DVC cash ressie works. :confused3

We may need to book a cash stay in addition to a points stay in the future if we decide to bring family with us. I was thinking that WE would book a cash stay (hopefully with the member discount:)) and then use our points to book our family's room. I just wondered if they can be booked at the same time or if there is some sort of window.:confused3

Also, how many rooms can one book with the DVC discount (if available)? We're thinking of a trip to HHI in 2011 and we will not have any points:sad1: so we would need to book with cash. Can we book 2 rooms with the cash discount and put one in my parents' names? Or would we have to put one in my name and one in DH's name?

I was able to book 2 cash rooms with MS for HHI at 11 months. One was in our name (members) and the other for family (non-members). We do not own at HHI. We even got the discount on both rooms.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply!:thumbsup2

For others reading, technically a member needs to be staying in the cash room itself to get the discount. I don't think it's uncommon to allow the discount in this situation when the member is present but it is technically outside the rules (which they could change).

To add to this, MS is cracking down on many things that have "slipped" through the cracks before. Checking availability on ressies prior to the 7 month window (non home resort) is another example.

I would check out AP rates and other discounts that may be available much sooner than member discounts. The member discounts are seldom available far in advance of the travel dates. Perhaps if you have a husband and wife who are both members, you can then book two rooms as one member must be listed in each. Good luck..

I sometimes wonder if the MS CMs are all trained by different people. I just inquired about this exact same thing and was told as long as the member is the one making the reservation and will be vacationing at the same time it doesn't matter if they are actually staying in the cash discounted room. I guess with this type of situation it depends on who you talk to when you book? Would there be problems checking in do you think? :confused3

Disney is nothing if not inconsistent. Here is the quote I found amount my papers. I don't see the item currently addressed on the website or any of the downloads.

Member Rental Discounts may be requested by a member or an associate. However, a member must personally occupy the rental Vacation home for all nights reserved on a cash basis in order to receive the Member Rental Discount.
They could certainly change this rule on their whim.

I wonder if the resort and season make a difference. I also have a reservation at HHI for my DSIS for her honeymoon, cash with member discount. We are the members and will not be joining her on her honeymoon!

You certainly got that right. I sometimes think it's a case of the one hand not knowing what the other hand is doing. As my dear grandma used to say. It gets scarey not knowing who to believe. I'm always expecting trouble at check-in whenever I've had to call and ask a question. I seem to rely more on you folks here than MS.

I agree that they seem to be much more liberal for HHI -

Esp for off season as the resort can have LOTS of vacancies for about 4 months out of the year.

The 25% cash discount is only for DVC resorts, correct? I won't get a DVC discount if I want to reserve a room at another Disney resort, such as CBR, right?

Silly question maybe but I couldn't find the answer on dvcmember.com.

Thanks!

Correct, only on DVC resorts for cash through MS and even then it's subject to availability.
