I am new to DVC and was wondering how a combination of cash and point reservations work.

I am looking to stay 5 nights later this year. If I book 3 nights with the rest of my points (developer) but want two nights right after that as cash points for the same room, are the reservations linked so I don't have to change rooms between them?

Yep and hopefully you can get a DVC member discounted cash room. We did for our trip starting on Sat. We are staying at OKW on cash Sat. night then points Sunday thru Thursday, then cash on Friday/Sat. Then on Sunday we switch to BCV on points for 5 nights and cash our last night which is a Friday. All of our ressies are linked so no moving involved.

If I stay in a room on points followed by an AP reservation for the same room, does that require moving rooms? I realize this likely means I would have to offically check-out and back in at the front desk but I'm just concerend about the moving out part.

An AP reservation and a points reservation cannot be linked. But you can make sure the other reservation number is listed on each reservation. Then, when you check in, make sure you are blocked into the room for the entire stay. And make sure both reservations are in the same name. And, yes, you will have to check out and check back in. If you make the reservation through MS, they will combine your reservation as one and you won't have to check in or out.

We did this once and one reservation was in my name and one was in my husband's name. When we checked in, we found out we were going to have to move. But we had checked in early in the day and were able to be blocked into one room for the entire stay.
