ok now im onto planning my budget well trying to anyway lol. what do you use and which do you find easier. has anyone registered their cc in their disney hotel? are you charged for each transaction?

thanks

I guess it depends on your card. when I used my Natwest debit card, I got the real exchange rate (1.26ish), but I also got charged 2.75% for the exchange, which meant I probably paid more overall, but I haven't crunched the numbers to see.

I know of at least one card (a nationwide one) which doesn't make a charge for foreign currency transactions, so if you get the real exchange rate then that would be the best option I would say.

We took very few Euros for our stay and paid mostly using Nationwide Visa credit card. No transaction charges and a better exchange rate :goodvibes

I tend to take Euros, I found the website I used through that Martin Lewis money forum and got a great rate and was able to pick them up in the airport. I tend to use my card for sneaky little purchases that my hubby doesn't need know about which then get delivered to the hotel ;) he always wonders where all the stuff comes from when we start packing !! lol Using my card however wasn't as expensive as withdrawing additional cash ... my bank were quite expensive for this

I didn't register my card with the hotel, but I just paid for everything by card and found when I got home that I was charged £1.50 per transaction. Not too bad if you just do the odd couple but I used a payphone 6 times as there was a problem and I couldn't get through properly and it charged me £1.50 each time so £9 in the space of 5 minutes. I think next time I would just exchange money at the hotel reception each morning, but that's just me.

I'm always on a tightish budget when we go to DLRP, so I take euros.
If I'm using my credit card for shopping, we tend to buy most things in one transaction (that shop in the Disney Village has a lot to answer for :lmao: ) and I'll use my credit card for that.

We will be taking Euros but will of course have debit card for those over the budget must have items that we see.

We are the same. Hence we know what the balance in the savings account is at the start of the holiday and I track what we spent on the credit card.
Nice bonus is when we get back the credit card statement; and when paid in full, is always a little bit less because of the better exchange rate. It is like finding money in a pocket you didn't know was there :thumbsup2

I use my Nationwide credit card for big purchases & Euros for small things such as snacks, drinks etc. I always get my euros from M&S as I have yet to find someone with a better rate.

Whatever euros don't get used we keep as we go to France for day trips.

The new Abbey Zero card will also allow no charge on foreign transactions, mine is on its way in time for September! Also you get the VISA/Mastercard exchange rate which is usually very good!

Is it true that DLP do not accept Maestro and Switch cards?

Thanks.

I managed to use my Maestro card in the Emporium on Main Street, so I guess they're fine.

Maestro is a wordwide symbol so you will have no problem out in DLRP

I always take mainly Euros.

I'll take my CC just incase of emergency's but then if I was to mainly use it I would go way over the top :cool1:

With the actual Euros I can keep track of what I'm spending etc

We have a post office travel card. You put money onto it in Euros then just use it over there in shops/restaurants etc. The beauty of this is you put the Euros on when theres a good rate of exchange if possible and theres no commision charge. You can also then keep whats left for the next time

So can someone please confirm a nationwide credit care will not charge you for making a payment with their card in France and there will be no other charges? Other than interest if you dont clear the balance within a certain time?

This is correct, I have one especially for use abroad.

The Post Office CC is the same I believe, and now there is the Abbey Zero, which has an interest free period of 6 months (plus you can transfer other balances with no admin fee!)

the post office card sounds like a good idea :) I found when I used the Martin Lewis forum to compare exchange rates Travelex beat all the others so we used them last time.

id worry not everywhere would accept post office card.

I am going to apply for nationwide cc, then take some money with me (was going to take £600 converted into euros) but decided that it was a huge risk, so may take half that and take a cc with me then pay the rest off when I get back with the money i would have used for spending.

We've used it several times now and not found anywhere that didnt accept it. We've also used it outside DLP at places in Paris, hypermarkets etc. It can also be used to get money out of the hole in the wall machines
