Cash or Charge in Cozumel?

Since we have a long stop in Cozumel, we were considering a late lunch at a nice restaurant then we'd be ready for our late dinner seating on the Magic that evening.

Do most Cozumel restaurants take ccards? I hate to bring a lot of cash if we don't have to.

Almost everywhere in Cozumel takes a CC (the big ones Mastercard, Visa, AMX, Discover) as well as US currency. Their many source of income is Tourism so they make it VERY easy for you to spend your money We love Cozumel, the people are very friendly and the area is really nice... Have fun on your trip.

Personally I would pay cash...several reasons:

1. the exchange rate is better with credit card but they usually charge a fee so it becomes a mute point

2. I just don't trust using my cc in third world countries (no offense) I've had some problems when we were in Africa and a while back in Mexico

3. you have more bargaining power...not necessarily in a restaurant but when you are shopping

This sounds cheap but I have heard of friends who order room service before they leave and put it in a cooled lunchbox and take it with them...if we are not doing any excursions we usually go shopping in the morning come back for lunch on the ship and then maybe go back out.

P.S. I always keep cash in one of those money pouches that have a drawstring around the neck and then I stuff it in my shirt!?!?

I was going to take my CC til I read on another board that CC fraud happens a lot in Mexico. If you do use CC, don't let it out of your sight! I am going to take cash.

Perhaps cash is the safer route to go. Interesting that you don't think of the cc fraud issue so much while vacationing in the States. Shame that has to come into play.
