With all the threads about theft, etc., I was wondering if you could put money down on your room key and use it like a credit card??? We don't want to put anything on the card as we travel using cash only and have a low limit on the credit card to use for emergency only. I just thought this would be easier than to buy traveler's checks or carry a lot of cash??

Yes...you can put money down on your room key....I think you also may need to back it up with a credit card in case you spend more but I'm not sure about that!

You can put cash down on your room key and you don't need to put down a credit card at all. We do this quite often. It means that we can't use express checkout but that's ok with us. Whatever you don't spend gets refunded to you on checkout.

I love doing this. It is so great! They will take your room key at almost any store and even kiosk! I once charged a Mickey Bar to my room... it is very convenient.

Thank you for the info! This board has made my trip so much stress free and exciting!!

That is what I have decided to do. I have 200.00 in Disney Dollars saved. So I am going to put them down on my room key. Plus I will have another 300.00 in cash/travel checks. So I am going to put another 200.00 there. I will keep about 100.00 cash for tips and places that don't take my card.

I agree with all the theft I don't want to be worried about it.

Now can I have charging on both mine and DS card. I would have his card but if he wanted something I can just give him his card to get it.

15 days! only 15 days :rotfl:  :Pinkbounc

I love to do that. I don't have to keep up with cash every day, my older son can get permission (only with! to use his card if I need him to, and I don't have a bill at the end. I put the amount per day I think we will spend, maybe a little less so I won't have to worry about getting it back, and the little bit that goes over can go on the credit card. Unfortunately, this Thanksgiving I won't be able to since we'll be staying at the Dolphin and you can't use your room key for charges outside the resort.

Can I put stroller rental fees on my room card too, or do I need to pay cash for that. We are taking our first WDW trip, and are planning on renting a double stroller for the length of stay. I just don't want to carry alot of cash with me. Thanks. :)

This sounds like a great idea! We had thought we would just use our debit card while there but since reading all the other threads I was worried about someone using the number and cleaning me out! I do have one (or 7 lol) question though. At check in can we put as much $$ as we want on our key or does it have to be daily? Also, are there limits on daily spending? On our last day each of the kids are getting spending money for their souveniers and this would be great so I wouldn't worry about cash on their person to be lost! But, there are 6 of them so if I let each of them use their card at DTD for 25.00 would that be too many transactions??? We have two rooms so I am assuming I would have to put money on each room so all the cards worK? Wow, what a great idea!

We put $500 cash on our room key at check in. About 4 days later we checked the balance at the check in desk and put a bit more on to cover the rest of our time there. They gave us a printout of exactly what we spent and where. We ended up with a little over $100 refunded to us at checkout. It was given back as cash. We will be doing this again next trip. I felt so much better not carrying around so much cash.
