Cash night with member discount

Do you book a cash reservation thru MS even if there aren't any cash discounts available?

And if you book a couple nights on points and pay cash for additional nights, can you stay in the same room? Are the reservations linked?

Thanks!

Yes and yes. The ressie is attached so you can stay in the same room. We are doing this in May.

I do think you can catch a AP rate on a DVC room if available.

Since the AP discount is arranged through CRO, you have a very good chance of having to check out of your DVC point room and move to the AP CRO Room. And of course checking out again from the AP CRO room back to your DVC room.
I wonder if the hassel is worth the savings?

thanks everyone , I'll call back and ask if anything became available . I also had a chance to book AP rate and save somewhere near $100.00 but since we would not be able to link the ressies and my grandmother is joining us this trip I don't want to have to move with her so I payed reg rate through MS.

Which gives you a bigger discount off the rooms for a cash ressier - an AP or DVC member discount?

The DVC discount (when available) is 25% off the published rack rate. The AP discount (when available) is usually a flat dollar amount of a class of room (value, moderate, deluxe.) There is a little math involved.

I was just looking in our member handbook for some clarification on this cash discount and it looked like the member disc. for cash res. is only avail. for "undeclared" or "developer" inventory and that it's only made avail. 60 days ahead of your res. date and is based on existing reservations (or rather the lack of res.) by members. So if I understand this concept correctly does that mean you can't make a cash res. 11 mo. out at your home resort - i.e. you have to be within 60 days of your res. to find out if it's even avail.? There was no mention of it being 25% off reg. rates either - in fact it didn't say anything about how the rates are calculated.

I'm not really sure how to answer your question as this is all new to me, but I do know that our point reservation is not until the end of May and I made a cash reservation (at a discounted rate) in Dec 06 and added another night just this week (obviously much further out than the 60 days). I'm sure others can chime in with lots more info.

A studio is usually cheaper with an AP rate, because it's a flat amount off (usually $75). When you get up to a 1 bedroom, 25% is usually more.

The 60 days is for breakage rooms, which is when there are unreserved rooms and they are turned over to CRO. I've booked a member discounted room at more than 60 days, more like 90 to 120.
