Casey's Buns

NO!! I wanted a soft, squishy, white bun with my hot dog.
I was there a couple weeks ago. It may have some specks of "whole wheat" in it, but it is still plenty soft and squishy. ;)

One more thing, neither of our buns fell apart.
It was soft. :) It had the consistency of white bread.

This is GOOD news!! :thumbsup2 The ones I had in Dec. and Jan. just crumbled apart. I really don't care if it's wheat or white, but I need it squishy and able to withstand chili! :rotfl:

Have they finally found buns to fit the dogs yet?

They switched to smaller dogs a while back, and now you get at least an inch of bun with no dog! :confused3

And it's very annoying! I hope the buns are smaller now too (or the dogs bigger).

Of course, they switched to the smaller dogs to be healthier, right? :-D And then that extra inch of bun can be used as a resevoir for ketchup...

I don't recall a dog/bun discrepancy, and recall the dogs being good-sized. I did not try chili on my dog, so I cannot speak to the bun's chili-withstanding properties, but it did stand up to kraut, mustard, and spicy relish with nary a crumble.

(Honestly, for a $6 lunch, it's amazing what people will worry about.)

A tacky hot dog.

I'm sorry, I can't help but giggle at that.

:)

It'd be like having a hamburger that only covered 3/4 of the bun. Very obvious!

I don't eat there too often anyway - if I'm at the MK and want a good lunch, I head over to Trails End ($4.00 is a lot for a hot dog without anything else). But I did go a couple of times in December.

A $6 lunch? Our bill for a family of four at Casey's generally runs us a little over $40.

Hot dog: $5.79
Fries: $2.00
Drink: $2.00 for the small

That's about $10 per person. So yes, when I pay over $40 for a hot dog lunch for my family, I'm going to complain if the bun is hard and dry.

Good to know that the buns are still soft and not falling apart.

Actually at $5.79 the frech fries (or apple slices) are included. If you get just the dog it's around $4.

We have plans to eat there mid-April, and if my dog falls apart and gets my clothes all messy because I've slathered chili all over my 50% or more fat contented meal, I'll be pretty peeved!

Thanks for the heads up that these have a tendency to disintegrate; I'll hold my lunch over the table more carefully! :rotfl2:

Then, since it's my vacation, I'll walk away knowing that I'm MUCH more healthy now that I"ve had that "whole wheat, enhanced bun!!" :lmao: :lmao:

So. What the consensus?

When I was in the world in November, the buns were horrid and stale. They fell apart and my family would not eat them. They tasted like cardboard. So have they replaced them with 'hybrid' ones or have the health lobby done the emperors new clothes trick to con everyone into thinking the buns aren't minging?

I had them in March and they were just fine. My DH wasn't fond of the hamburger buns at Pecos Bill's, but there were no complaints about Casey's.

Also worth noting, the hot dog was longer than the bun, so complaints of a small dog are no longer a worry.
