Casey Anthony Trial Thread #3

Due to dog show, I am late to watching the proceedings.

I see that HoseA is going to be taken behind the woodshed by JBP! I can not believe the defense tried to pull this one!

joviroxx, when are you leaving? This Monday? :(
Yep, Monday night. Ive just spent that last half hour setting the DVR to record every day and now I just remembered Judge Perry said that they might be working late due to this 1 witness a day thing.. Hope he doesn't LOL!

Did any of you see Nancy Grace on Showbiz Tonight last night? She was asked what about the case caused her to draw so much attention to the Casey Anthony case and she said that the public attention to the case doesn't have to do with her but it has to do with Caylee herself, with the videos and pictures of her etc.

AJ Hammer asked her one final question from a viewer about why she only uses the moniker "tot Mom" and if it is that she is afraid to use the name Casey Anthony- Nancy's response was this "well obviously she hasn't been watching our show which is a big tsk tsk no no, because I say Casey Anthony all the time, it's not that I think I am conjuring up the devil. Tot mom is a moniker that was attached to her at the get go and it stuck just like any other nickname so nobody is afraid of anything on the Nancy Grace show so your viewer can put that in her pipe and smoke it"

It was priceless!

I am bumping this up so those that also feel NG is over the top can see the proof that she is!!

ya - i saw that and though "defensive much"

she MAY say her name once and a while but she calls casey "Tot Mom" 99% of the time.

it's on her screen - it scrolls across the bottom, it's what she calls her on her own commercials.

and casey isn't the only one she does that to - she hits on some nick name and that's it - whoever it is looses their real name and the nick name stays alive and well with NG

Once again I find myself alone on an island.

I think this was a bad day for the state.

Fire away.

It thought Dr. Spitz started out strong for the defense. It looked like they were gaining ground and doing well to dispute/create doubt towards the prosecutions theories. However, I feel Spitz took it too far and "jumped the shark" saying things like the photos of the crime scene were staged due to the hair placement and insisting that someone had to have staged it made me feel like he is a bit of a loon. The comments about the y incision :confused3 totally irrelevant, there was nothing there to cut into if all that is left are bones. His answers and forgetfulness made him seem less credible and more of an "I play a doctor on tv" kind of witness to me.

Agreed. But the worst part for me was him saying the duct tape was placed after the body was skeletonized. REALLY?

Oh, its one of those nights that finds me perusing the web and was just reading up on old material and say this, ah the memories:

http://www.wftv.com/blank/18901013/detail.html

Back in 2009, there was a question about how Casey was paying for all these experts. Prosecutors and the judge were concerned that there may be a conflict of interest. The argued that Casey and her family had nothing of real value nor any assets except for pictures and videos. Casey couldn't sell them as she was in jail and only Baez would be able to handle any kind of sale. This , prosecutors argued, could be a conflict because it might affect how Baez handled the case in order to make the sales more valuable. Casey then signed this lovely affidavit......

Someone on HLN had a viewer question today about a plea bargain. HLN lday, i think it was Jean today, said that since this was just an "accident" Casey didnt take a plea because she was not offered one, and the State if FL refused to offer a plea bargain. But after reading that last link, it looks like she was. So, why didn't she just say, Caylee drowned, I got scared, I'll take a deal? Well, I know because it wasn't, but if that's what they are going with.

Well, that was interesting. Add her to the list of great legal minds of the 21st century.

Hope you have a good time in Italy. That's on our list.

It strikes me as so odd that Casey Anthony, likely one of the biggest liars in the world, had 30 days to concoct a story about her deceased daughter and in that time frame, she couldn't have come up with something a little more foolproof than a fake nanny story? It took her close to 3 years to come up with the accidental drowning story? How odd.

I also thought the good doctor's testimony went careening. I began to wonder if we were all talking about the same body here! The forensic anthropologist was making some decent points for the defense, I thought. But we then had the problem of the ambush type testimony. Don't know how that will eventually work for the defense.

Add me to the list of those who think today was a day for the state. I have to wonder if those who think the state had a bad day watched the same trial as I did, or if they were inibriated. :confused3 Spitz, IMO, is out of touch - he admitted himself he has been out of the "scene" for a while and he also appeared to be fame seeking...always going after big cases in the news. Those issues, plus stating the tape had been put on the skull long after decomp = ridiculous. Jury will see through it and I hope Bozo gets held in contempt.

I missed all of today - could someone please tell me what happened with the witness that didn't come back and why Baez could possibly get charged with contempt of court?

Dr. Rodriguez, forensic anthropologist, began giving an opinion about the duct tape. There is a court order that experts may not testify to material not contained in their reports or depositions. JBP accused JB of trying to pull a fast one with this witness. He said it was intentional and he may hold JB in contempt. JBP was ticked.

A possible charge of contempt and then a fizzled expert testimony by Spitz. Not a good day for the defense.

ya but what sucks now is that he gets a second shot at the apple - didn't they go from court to take the first guys depo? so now he can say what he'll testify to and say whatever

Yes, they were to take his depo after court. I think the state can be present also. JBP felt KC deserves to have the testimony heard. But, this way there will not be ambush material from an expert. The State will be aware of the information to be presented.

This is at least the second time JB has been threatened with contempt charges by JBP.

I agree, I think JBP is being very careful to have all his bases covered since this is a death penalty case. I think in general you can't punish a defendant if their lawyer tries to pull a stupid stunt - the lawyer is supposed to have better judgement anyway - so let the witness say what he is going to say and charge Baez later.

Yup. JB put JBP in a tough position. How to preserve the integrity of the trial and still address the infraction?! It seems to me defense is hoping to get away with stunts rather than present a sound response to the prosecution's case. A part of me wishes there was a defense. I was wanting so much for the apparent cruelty and horror of the crime to not be true.

On the possible Contempt of Court issue - "Matlock" was charged a few times with Contempt of Court.

Seriously though, it's not the best thing to have happen but I imagine it happens just about everyday in courtrooms across the country.

It just seems to me that Baez has the near impossible task of paddling a boat upstream without a paddle. Not that I approve of some of his tactics or his techniques. I just know that I would NOT want his job. Nope, no how, no way, not ever!!

It would be normal protocol if the brain was in the skull.
Since Caylee's body had sat outside in the elements for 6 months there was no brain material left at all so there was no reason to remove the skull cap.

.

so why on earth didn't the prosecution bring that up?

there was no reason to cut the top off, there were many openings already in the skull right?

after the defense is done, how many witness's can the prosecution bring back?
