Actually I have a little knowledge on the subject and yes people who have been abused can have normal lives, not APPEAR but actually have normal lives. Can walls go up when hurt, yes of course, but once you have your own child that becomes your life and everything in the past is the past and you do what you need to do to protect your child and give them a safe and happy home.

The past makes them who they are. It doesn't disappear because they have a child and love them. An abuse victim learns to put it away, but it's always there, no matter how they rationalize it.

She's a nasty piece of work.

I dont know if George was an abuser or not , but I DO know that Casey is a liar.

Again, I dont know these people but I try to think logically. Ive gone back and forth and vascillated. But nothing else makes sense to me. Logically, however, I can't buy anything Casey is selling right now.
This.

The one thing I keep coming back to...in part thanks to the Floridians on this thread :thumbsup2...is that...

  • accidental drownings happen with some regularity in FL (certainly relative to RI) so why cover it up
  • at the very least George would have called 9.1.1. to try to SAVE Caylee when found in the pool (or yell to Casey to call...she arrived seconds later)
  • that IF George KNEW Caylee was already dead and beyond being saved, it would still be the most natural thing to contact law enforcement
  • I don't believe George, esp as former law enforcement, would immediately think to cover up an ACCIDENT
  • I also don't think that George would immediately start yelling at Casey that Cindy was going to be pissed and Casey was going to go to prison. I mean, seriously?

This.

I agree, Baez has to come up with some sort of issue, unfortunatly he did not think about what he was going to say and what someone may think about how ridicoulus it sounds

to say that all abused children turn out like this is wrong

Yes, it's wrong. BUT the majority of women who kill their kids have been abused. Sane people don't kill their children. We all have our own limits to what we can cope with, while some may be able to endure abuse for years and come out of it as functional human beings, many do not.
In any case that doesn't excuse her killing her child or covering it up.

Casey's not just a liar to me, it goes far beyond that. It's one thing to lie about having a job, and whole other to actually take cops to a place you haven't worked at for over two years... how could she possibly think she'd get away with that?!

This.

I could totally see George yelling at Casey and asking, how she could let this happen, etc. And, then Casey threatens to tell, either George or Lee is Caylee's father, if he doesn't help her?

I believe, the incest and that it's very relevant

Help her with what though? If it was an accident, it was an accident. Unless she killed Caylee and then George discovered it. BUT, if it WAS an accident,t here was nothing to help with. He could have called the police and explained that, heck he even could have called the police and say it was an accident on his watch.

Casey has never said when all the molestaion even started. How long has this gone on? Never once has Cindy been brought into the matter as Casey never telling her mother about it?

Baez is such a smarmy guy, I really want to smack him. He just gets under my skin with the way he acts, talks...

Some victims APPEAR to live NORMAL lives. Some APPEAR to cope better than others. Can you imagine, being sexually molested as a child, over and over, and come out NORMAL? Maybe, with extensive therapist..

I think you are wrong. I personally know someone who was sexually abused by her father as a child and it occurred for years until she put a stop to it. She didn't do drugs or go crazy, she went away to college as soon as she could and then married young to get away. She did eventually divorce her first spouse, but is currently married with healthy and happy kids.

Does she have issues?? Sure she does, she is NORMAL and human, and has issues like everyone else. Did she have therapy about it, no she didn't. She knew that she did nothing wrong, that her father was the culprit. Yes, she hated her dad, and directed her anger at him not at herself or anyone else.

OK. :confused3 I don't.

That, he is.

Next witness: James Newlander. Can't recall who this is. Oh and someone tweeted that the boyfried Tony Lazarro is in the hallway. Wonder if he will testify today.

Here is my take on what Baez needs to do: "My client is a liar. She lies to everyone. She lies to parents, friends, boyfriends, family, police. She says BIG lies. But wait, THIS time, you HAVE to believe her" :confused3

Not all abuse victims exhibit the same symptoms. PP is correct that most women, who kill their children, have been abused.

Sexual Abuse/Other Abuse
*

Few things leave a mark on someone's life more than sexual abuse or other severe emotional or physical abuse. We tend to fall apart, numb out, withdraw, or attack. We learn a very defensive approach to the world that can be difficult to alter later. We become afraid of others, ourselves, and/or our environment.

Undoing these patterns takes awareness and work. But it can be done. Therapy and support groups can provide a "safe place" to talk about ones experiences and to learn that one was not at fault for the abuse. Self esteem can be developed and self-confidence increased. Anxiety and other symptoms of posttraumatic stress can be lessened. Life can become much more enjoyable and meaningful.
*
Sexual Abuse
*
Sexual abuse can be overt and blatant (molestation) or covert and subtle (being dressed as a child in provocative clothing.) It "explodes" the feelings of a child. The following information is provided to give the lay person some idea about the nature of sexual abuse.

*
Depression
Feelings of loss and grief
A lack of energy
Problems with memory
Poor self esteem
Excessive worry about ones body and appearance
A feeling of being powerful in a malignant way
Wanting to die
*
Anxiety
Fear of authority

Feelings of detachment
Excessive time spent in fantasy
In severe situations, multiple personality, post traumatic stress, etc.
Keeping unnecessary secrets
SHAME (the feeling of not "measuring up
")
*
Physical problems
Headaches
Gastrointestinal problems
Bleeding
Sexually transmitted diseases
*
Sexual symptoms
Sexual preoccupation in thought and conversation
The need to reenact event--repetition compulsion
Sexually precocious behavior
*
How do these symptoms look during childhood and adolescence?
*
In infancy
Failure to thrive
Withdrawal
Fretfulness
Whining, crying
Clinging
Speech problems
*
During early childhood
Thumbsucking
Scratching, picking
Self-injurious behavior
Conduct disturbances
Sleep difficulties
Compulsive or inappropriate sexual behavior/seductiveness
Excessive sexual knowledge
*
During middle childhood
Sexual symptoms as above

Promiscuity and dissociative behavior are classic symptoms of sexual abuse, especially as a child of incest.

But dissociative behavior typically has an element of memory loss, correct? I don't see that Casey is claiming any kind of memory loss. On the contrary, Baez presented a pretty detailed account in his opening statement of what Casey claims happened when she was abused, what happeed when Caylee died, and what she and her father supposedly did to cover it up.

Because it's an opinion? On a discussion board? Because Casey has lied so much? Because the whole defense story sounds like a bunch of BS, IMHO? Because throwing out other ridiculous accusations makes one (me, at least) question everything they say? :confused3
.

She is a liar, has been since the beginning and accusing anyone of sexual abuse was her ONLY way to possibly find some sympathetic ears on the jury.
