Casey Anthony NOT GUILTY & Sentencing Thread 6

Give it a few years and Casey will be on Celebrity rehab with Dr Drew just like Amy Fisher.

I have great respect for Jeff Ashton. He showed so much class this morning. He even found it in himself to say something positive about Baez.

What did he say about him

you know what - they won't. did people continue to yell at OJ?

maybe cause he's a big guy? i dont know. i know in private people talked about how he got away with it but after time passed people moved on with their lives and other cases that pissed them off (like this one)

next year or the next year unfortunately there will be another case that captures our attention and will take the preasure off Casey (which will tick her off beyond belief)

there was a case here in Canada 10-15 years ago. Paul Barnado and his lovely wife Karla. tortured and killed 2 15 year olds in their home. it started with Karla "giving" her 13 year old sister to paul - totally wasted - as a wedding give. somehow she ended up dying but they never proved it was them who killed her it was classified as accidental od.

they teenagers were kept in their house for weeks, they both raped them and beat them before they killed them (after video taping them)

anyways karla got 12 years because she "cooperated" with the cops :rolleyes1 and paul got life without. karla's been out for around 10 years more or less now and is living her live somewhere no one knows and no one seems to care anymore.

She moved to the islands and changed her name and appearance. This is why noone knows where/who she is (other than she's in the islands).

Same with Mary Bell, a child who was a child killer.

Same with the boys that killed that toddler in England about ten years ago. People were outraged and they had to change their identities to fit in (as much as they could).

This case actually is one that came to mind after processing the verdict. Karla is supposedly living under an assumed name in another country, but currently is married with a child. Every now and again there are people who find out who she is and give an interview. Supposedly even her parents have forgiven her for being part of the 'murder' of her sister. Since, there are no actual interviews or reports from Karla or her parents, that is speculation.

She had to leave Canada because of how the public outcry. They followed, harrassed etc.

I think you are right in the sense that if Casey chooses to disappear in the next few years, she will be forgotten about in a sense of the word. However, if she goes out there on the circuit and writes a book etc, it will never be forgotten by the millions of people who think she did get away with murder. The jury did what they felt was right. I doubt, other than this particular, alternate we will hear what made their minds up. I honestly believe they will stay as anonymous as possible. While I would love to know what exactly was missing for them, I don't think we will hear much of that.

This story in general makes me feel even more disgusted.

Defense attorneys Jose Baez and Cheney Mason celebrated their victory shortly after the not-guilty verdicts were read with a champagne toast at Terrace 390, a restaurant onNorth Orange Ave.

But as word of their gathering got out, people clustered in front of the restaurant's glass doors, where spectators could see attorneys hanging out with about 20 other people inside, including TV personality Geraldo Rivera.

"They shouldn't be celebrating," said Wanda Tyler of Orlando. "A little girl is dead and they helped her killer go free."

Spectator Patrick Fowler, of Tampa, called out for Baez to leave the restaurant. He didn't think justice had been served and made that known. Baez, who was drinking what appeared to be a beer, looked up and smiled a few times.

One of his drinking companions, a tall, slender man wearing a plaid shirt, came close to the door and made a lewd gesture with hand.

Pictures: See Casey Anthony's reaction to the verdict.

A couple of minutes later, Mason moved closer to the door and made a lewd gesture at Fowler.

I completely agree. No sense of personal responsibility at all. If I can blame someone else for my actions, I cannot be held accountable.

What did he say about him

Well, he said he did well on cross examination and that he was good for a young relatively inexperienced attorney, or something to that effect.

He also said his retirement had been put on hold so he could take this case, and he has no regrets about the case they put on. I was very glad to hear that, he should have no regrets regarding this case and his performance. You work the case you have, not the one you wish you had...

And the worse part is that while she will rake in the millions now, she won't us back for anything!!

I don't know Florida's situation, but in Michigan it doesn't necessarily work that way. Defendant's are assessed an amount to cover attorney's fees. It doesn't cover the entire amount, but they are assessed at sentencing, even in cases where the Defendant is sentenced to decades or life in prison.

I have no idea how much is ever collected, but it is also part of the terms of parole for those released, so I would imagine something is collected in those cases.

Since Casey was not convicted, I'm not sure the State could assess anything against her, even if they have policies in place. If not, it certainly begs for the legislature to look at a few areas to review and address statutorily. It's not a secret those in high profile cases are likely to profit tremendously for interviews, book & movie deals -- seems to me the gravy train ought to serve the taxpayers first.

What a well-spoken guy Jesse Grund is. He said "Right now, she has everything she ever wanted...she's going to have money, she's going to have people at her doorstep asking for her, wanting her, and she's going to have that partying lifestyle that she so craved."

In a nutshell.

He's got it exactly right.

That good, I think he did a WONDERFUL job, I really think the jury are the ones who messed up or didn't understand or just didn't care and wanted to go home

Shut the front door! Star Jones just said something I agree with!!

Murder, accident, tragic accident, it doesn't matter. That child should NEVER have been in a trash bag , thrown in a swamp!

A B S O L U T E L Y !

That statement pretty much says it all. And I think we all know who placed Caylee in the trash bag and dumped her in the swampy woods.

But she's still her, the one before........the pathological (convicted) liar, the sociopath. She'll rage again and be back. You can bet on it. It won't be long either.

Of course! She is in the era of make a sex tape and became rich and famous. So kill your kid and get away with it and be even a bigger celebrity, she will have PR's kissing her behind just to make money and we all know that she doesn't like a 9-5 job or having any responsibilities, so it will be MANA from heaven for her. She is not going to be on CNN because they don't pay, she is going for the big $$ magazines, TV, books, movie. I hope she gets the same treatment from the country as the Octomom did. And we don't leave this world without paying our dues, one day she will pay for what she did.

My husband follows TMZ daily  and according to their website VIVID entertainment has already contacted Baez for a XXX contract for Casey :scared1:

On NGrace, the alternate juror said something about the jury thought the accidental drowning and coverup was plausible.

With that said, could the jury have looked at that and come up with accidental drowning was due to neglect? If it was an accident, it would have to be through neglect, right? Not watching the child? Would that have given murder in 2nd degree?
It's clear to me this jury wasn't going to convict without a confession.

By the way, Ashton will be on Tru tv today at 2PM EASTERN.
Thanks. I might check in but other than posting I am done with watching.

My son came down this morning and was glad to see me watching an old movie, "Mom, you get too emotionally involved - it doesn't matter in the bigger picture - The Lord knows" I think he's right
I can see this point. However, science has now proven alot of people were wrongfully accused. I am all about justice and not an ACLU liberal by any means but we can't send someone to Death Row were there is no physical evidence. That's the shame here, she is getting away with murder because the prosecution did not have enough to prove guilt.

Meh - she got away due to jury incompetence.

That's where I have a serious issue w/ the jury's verdict.

Two year old in mother's care and custody.

Mother hides child is missing for 31 days. (Not to mention mother's documented conduct & activities during these 31 days.)

Disappearance doesn't come to the attention of authorities through mother's contacting them.

Mother cannot truthfully explain absence of child, lies repeatedly to authorities investigating.

Child is eventually discovered months later, close to home, exactly as mother stated she was. Remains of child are so badly decomposed cause of death cannot be determined.

Logically there is no other scenario to explain this excepting mother's responsibility & complicit involvement. Personally I never hoped she'd get the death penalty, just because of the increased amount of appeals & such she benefited from, not to mention how much was wasted on her defense just because of the possible attachment of the death penalty in this case.

For me the facts & evidence more than rise above the level of reasonable doubt by any definition.

I am so upset over this. I followed the trial and was shocked, absolutely shocked yesterday. This morning I am actually weepy. I feel helpless. I cannot understand the verdict - and that so many seem satisfied with it? There was enough evidence to find her guilty of aggravated manslaughter at the very LEAST. She literally got away with murder.
And I hate that people are going to put money in her pocket.
This is so, so wrong :sad2:
