Casey Anthony NOT GUILTY & Sentencing Thread 6

Double Jeopardy.. She can't be tried twice. Not sure how an outright confession would work, but no need to keep quiet about details now.

I'm not a lawyer, but I don't understand. First of all, everyone has the right to plead the 5th. It has nothing to do that there is another lawsuit pending. She really does need to keep her mouth shut until ALL lawsuits are over.

The defamation of character suit is a different trial altogether, so double jeopardy doesn't enter into the equation. She is not being tried for the death of Caylee. She is being charged for defamation. So no double jeopardy. SO, for now, she needs to keep her mouth shut so a confession can't be entered into that trial.

I read somewhere that the jury did not ask for even a single piece of evidence to look at. I would have to try and find the article again.

This is 100% correct. I have read it a million times in different news sources.

Tim Miller of Equusearch on InSession. Spent $112,000 to search for Caylee. Said how disturbing it was to hear Jose Baez say in opening statements that Caylee WAS NEVER MISSING. Looking at the options to recover the money.

Said another family needed them and they turned them down to search for Caylee. (I think that's what he said...I'm cleaning!)

It makes me so sick that a man who took a horrible situation in his own life and turned it around to help others, has been so USED. That poor man.

When Russell was on last night he kept saying "we" so that tells me the jurors have been talking. He wasn't even in there deliberating with them so how strange that he knew their thoughts?
Russell also stated that one dead hair in the trunk wasn't enough. Okay so two, three dead hairs would have been enough. :confused3
a dead hair is a dead hair or is it not?

I just feel horrible about all this …. horrible.

We all know that no one else in this world killed that baby-doll. NO.ONE.ELSE.

I don't want to blame this jury but who do we blame for this outcome ….

We can't know 100% for sure.....we were not there! I have my doubts about George, I think he's shady and maybe he killed her and is making Casey and his wife cover things up for him. It angers me that people are saying we know Casey did it.....no of us can know if we weren't there! And these people saying that someone should kill Casey or her parents, they are no better then whoever killed Caylee!

So you would think!

I highly doubt out and out slanderous lies were part of the accepted norm

This imo has to change. Not only is it morally questionable, juries have now proven not bright enough to understand the applicable law and they can't be sued. It's wrong and I hope changes are made to OS rules and regulations

I agree with this. What Baez did to George Anthony was despicable. I think there needs to be much more control exercised over what can be included in a opening statement.

So you would think!

I think the jury was made up of all crime scene TV watches. They wanted boatloads of DNA and they wanted them to find the evidence using fancy equipment like they have invented for TV. In actuality, very little of that equipment actually even exists.

Well I know exactly what happened. The jury doesn't think Caylee is dead. They think she's out at Universal with Zanny the Nanny.

I think CA and Lee might think she is alive as well. That part of the testimony sure didn't help any. The whole lot of them are NUTS!

I'm going to reflect a bit on the breakdown Casey had during closing when Mr Ashton described the fictional drowning scenario when George yelled at her it was all her fault. It was a real reaction, unusual for Casey and I wonder why it occurred at that moment. Also, she did mouth, "it WAS his fault" during LDB closing. My gut tells me it wasn't George, but in her mind she seems to believe it. There is something there IMO. Maybe George comes off completely different in person, if he has a vibe.

It all comes back to the whole family is off and none of them fought for Caylee, so why should the jury........

I agree. At the very least there should be some proof that has to be had if you are going to infer an alternate theory to get your client off. Its right to have a defense team. I agree they should/must put on a the best case they can for their client. I don't agree at all with making accusations that you can't prove. Its a shady practice and honestly, unethical. To start pointing fingers with no valid proof to back it up. If the defandant can cook up little scenarios that create reasonable doubt, they should have to prove that.

Had they not been able to blindly throw out slanderous statements, maybe there would have been an outcome I felt was more in line with the truth. Not Guilty, honestly, was not a truthful outcome for me personally.

Kelly

ETA and yes I know Opening statements are not testimony, but who are we kidding? Once the words are said they can be striked all day but they are out there.

You know what makes me lscratch my head.. The alternate juror saying that he believed George had something with it.. On one hand they say there was no proof to believe Casey killed Caylee and on the other hand they say they believe George was involved with absolutely no proof to back it up....:confused3

What is the JAC? I emailed Richard Hornsby and asked if Casey would need to pay back the State of FL since she knew this was "just a drowning" and three years of resources were wasted tracking down imaginary people, sequestering jurors, etc. He replied:

Yes, because she was convicted of misdemeanors, she will be responsible for paying back the JAC.

What is the JAC? Does this mean she is responsible for the entire cost of the trial? How about the fact that the tax payers are paying for extra security in the Orlando area, the fees associated with the jury, the extra protection that Casey needed for her own safety, etc. Any idea on what exactly she will be responsible for?

That's sounds great if it's true! She needs to spend the rest of her life paying for her trial and the real Zenaida Gonzalez for ruining her name.

Its not a criminal case, its civil. Taking the 5th is to not incriminate themselves. Nothing to incriminate now as she has already been tried. At least , that is how I understand it.

I like that! I think the JAC is Justice Administrative Commission. But that is only the cost of the defense. What about the trial? The prosecutors? etc... Ugh, makes me sick!

Tim Miller is disgusted with the lot of them!

He should be able to sue her for using their resources (time, money, etc.) under false pretenses. She basically stole from them.

Oh, I'll be announcing the gender all over the place!

Mommy Sims did look like an idiot jumping up and down. Mason's office was nearby...they could've gone there and quietly popped the champagne bottle. They absolutely MEANT to stick it in everyone's faces, when the fact was, no matter what the verdict, Caylee is DEAD and was tossed like garbage. But that was never one of the defense's concerns, so why now, I guess.

She most certainly did ... and the way she was hugging Casey & crying after the verdict was read made me want to  ...

No matter how much the defense wanted to stick it in everyone's face, I would have hoped that they would have at least shown - if not for anything else - more respect for the memory of Caylee and would have chosen somewhere less conspicuous to celebrate ... to me it just showed that the defense team had just about as much common sense as the jury had ...

She has to be a psychopath. And they can't show remorse. That's why as horrific as the Andrea Yates case was, she HAD to have been really sick. The insanity plea is a valid defense for someone like her. Not for Casey. I think she was more aware of what she was doing. Andrea Yates was in a trance like state, I think.

Oh, and another person on here said something about "Now we can search for the real killer". How wrong was it that I laughed at that???

Agree, with one slight pedantlic quibble with the bolded. :P Psychopath is rather a dated term in MH. We tend to use "sociopath" these days or the more PC "ASPD" (anti-social personality disorder). People with ASPD lack conscience, empathy and cannot feel remorse -- but some can be very good at "showing" (faking) emotions to those around them. Two good books if you are interested: Martha Stout's The Sociopath Next Door (very readable) and Robert Hare's Without Conscience.

And yes, I think Casey definitely could fit the clinical picture for ASPD, although it is wrong to attempt a diagnosis without a proper inperson assessment.;)

Do you think anyone would sue her for mental anguish? Besides Equusearch, think of all the volunteers who spent weeks searching for Caylee.

AgrEd. He could sue her for fraud.
