I had a few questions.
One do they charge some outrageous extra charge like at Goffy's and AG, or do we just have to leave a tip ?

two how much is the peach desert?
Has any one heard how much the kids meal deserts are. So far Ive heard the float and the ice cream scoop.

What do you mean by extra charge? When we ate at Goofy's we didn't have any extra charges, just the meal and tip.
I'll be there in 2 weeks, if you don't get an answer regarding kid's desserts I'll be sure to ask for you. :)

I meant the granity some places charge goffys and ag did it last trip

Do you mean "gratuity"? I don't know what "granity" is, but the gratuity is just the tip that they figure beforehand. I ate at AG earlier this month and it was an 18% gratuity. So are you asking if CCT adds a gratuity or lets you determine your own tip? I would actually like to know this too.

I agree that the 18% gratuity is outrageous at Goofy's, considering that it's a buffet, 5%-10% is considered customary for tips, if that. At many buffets outside Disney, they ask you to not leave any tip these days.

That being said, Carthay Circle only adds automatic gratuity for larger parties (I think 8+), as is typical for most restaurants.

The price of the peach dessert is $11.00 at least at lunch time.

Ty that's all i needed to know Yes that's the word i meant and for some reason my spell check hasn't been working all day lol

The tip is the gratuity, it's figured into the price of your meal (at least it was the last time we did a CM). You don't need to leave extra unless you feel you got extra special service. :) This is done at characters meals and I don't think it would be done at CCT because it's not done at any other TS place, only at character meals.

Thanks for the info on CCT :)

Is 5-10 really customary in the US? I'm used to tipping around 20% and budgeted for that...but if it's normally less than I will have some extra cash :). Also at the character meals do the characters get a cut of the tips? If so 18% seems reasonable to me.

No, 5-10% is not customary for table service meals. I think they were talking about for a buffet meal.

15-20% is customary in the US for a table service meal.

For a buffet, I would still leave 15%. But I know not everyone feels the same about tipping since the actual service is less (server spends less time on you with a buffet- you get what you need yourself in most cases)

Okay cool:) I would feel weird leaving that little even if it was a buffet! We've always gotten great service at goofy's even if it is just drinks and plate clearing.

No, 5-10% is not customary in the US, at a buffet I tip 10% for normal service and up to 20% for great service, I agreed with what the pp said simply because I don't feel it's worth a guaranteed 18%, especially given the horrible service we actually had at GK.
Characters do NOT get a portion of the tip, not at all. It goes to the server, and they may have to share it with the host/hostess.

I'm always glad when I hear people say they had great service there, we did not. Our server hardly came to our table, at the end of our meal we had piles of plates on our table for 4, which had 4 people at it. We had a hard time getting refills on our drinks as well, I would have tipped 10% for the service we received but since they add the 18% I had no choice.

the only time I would leave a 5% tip is if I was really unhappy with our server, it wold be my way of making a point that the service was not good!! lol....and I have honestly only ever done that one time.
We leave 15% unless it was exceptional service then it's 20% Or if the meal was really inexpensive say if we shared a meal and the bill was only $15. I would still leave a $5. tip which is 34% but if the service was good I could never just leave a dollar or 2. Those people work so hard (most of them) for their money.

Keep in mind that at Goofy's, you are probably also tipping all the characters for their service, not just the wait staff/busboys. While I can not guarantee that they split the tips like that, I do know a lot of restaurants split your tip between certain people "servicing" the table.

15-20% tip is costumary for any kind of service, as far as I know? I don't worry about if a meal is buffet or not. I always tip that much for a restaurant, cab, haircut, pedicure--etc.

Even if the service is less than stellar, I tend to tip that.

I have never even heard of a 5% tip for anything! 10% is sort of old fashioned--and 15-20 is typical. I always tend to give 20% just because it is easier for me to figure out in my head!:)

I think Disneyland uses the 18% gratuity because it is right in the middle of the customary "15-20%" tip that most people ordinarily give.

This is from money magazine--tip guidelines:

General rule: 10% usually means you are very unhappy, 15% usually means all was ok, 20% for excellent, and 25% for outstanding.

Restaurants with table service: Tip 15% of the bill, based on the quality of service. If you receive exceptional service, 15-25% is customary. In major cities of the U.S. however, 20% is considered to be a "good tip".

For bad or unacceptable service it is customary to tip as low as 10%. If service is bad enough to deserve only 10%, it is a good idea to let the manager know.

Buffet Service:
For buffet restaurants, a tip of 15% to 20% of the bill is still recommended because the servers often work harder than in normal restaurants. They may not take orders or bring out food, but they do work hard keeping your table clean of the empty plates after multiple trips to the buffet line. In addition to this, they often help to keep the buffet line stocked and clean, and they make coffee, brew tea, etc. Remember that the minimum tip for any server should be $1 per person. Do not leave only 75 cents for a $5.00 buffet!

I think that the reason that Disneyland has added in the gratuity to the bill at Goofy's and other buffets is because some people feel like once they have paid for the buffet they shouldn't have to pay more for the tip.

You will get a lot of different answers.

For me, a buffet is 5%-10% if your server is providing refills on your drinks. Sorry, but the server is not doing much. Now if it's a character meal and the server is taking photos and such, then they would get more. Same goes if they are doing more than they have to.

At other restaurants 10%-15% is the norm for me. If the server is exceptional, then I will tip higher. 10% is ok service, 15% is really good service. Anything over 15% is absolutely exceptional service.

I know many disagree with that, but I am already paying good money for the food, so while I do tip, I do expect that the servers will be paid a decent wage. It it is not up to me to make sure that happens.

I know servers do not get a decent wage and it bugs me that restaurants are allowed to only pay them $2 or $3 an hour and hope they make up minimum wage in tips so I don't mind tipping or restaurants that charge the fee. Many people have the idea of "I paid enough for the food so I'm not tipping"

For buffets I tip 10-15% depending on how often they come by the table and clean up. I've given 20% if they kept drinks filled etc. sometimes they don't. For a regular restaurant I tip 20-25% and on rare occasion have tipped 30%. I think restaurants that charge an automatic tip do it because it's a place people don't tip usually or don't think they have to.

Actually, in California, they have to pay Minimum Wage, plus tips. Also, federal law states that if the servers don't make at least minimum wage with the tips that the employer must make up the difference.

Either way, it is ultimately up to the employee to either insist that they are making a decent wage or find somewhere else to work, it's simply out not my responsibility to do this for them. I know it sounds harsh, but it's true.

Again, you are not tipping the characters, only the "server" and perhaps they share with the host/hostess. The characters do not get a portion of the tip, this is what I've been told by previous characters. :) Besides, I don't tip Mickey if I go see him in his house or on MS, why would I tip because I see him at his character meal?

cmwade is correct, in CA servers do get minimum wage plus tips, so IMO it's not my responsibility to give them more of a tip than they have earned, for me tip means~
