Do you need to treat Carsland like Toy Story Mania in HS and Everest in Animal Kingdom? Be at the front on the crowd at rope drop and risk bodily harm. Never been to DL, is there a rope drop? Is Carsland the most popular area?

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes. It really equates well to the rope drop at DHS where everyone runs for TSM and the TSM FP distribution. However so far it's rare to ride RSR and get off with enough time to also get a RSR FP.

To reduce congestion in CL, Disney is using FP machines for RSR that used to be for ITTBAB - near the main entrance to CL. However, they did build new FP distribution near the RSR entrance which will be used after the initial furor dies down.

I was just there, and that's a fair assessment if you don't want to wait two hours in the standby line. If you don't mind the wait, get FPs first.
The FP process for CL is more orderly than my experience at TSM in HS. But there is SUCH demand for RSR FP that you need to go there first or send a runner.

If you have two adults - 1 goes to FP - it's that LONG line on the left side of the circle when you come in BTW (hotel early people will already be in line and that's what they are waiting for). The other goes to RSR for the ride. You should be done w/ your FP in less than 30 min and the wait for the ride is around 45.
