Just checked on airline rates and there some great deals for May for dates that would work well for us! However, I really wanted our next trip to be when Carsland was open and obviously, if we go in May, it wont be open yet.

I also wanted to avoid the first summer of Carsland because I assume it will be totally crazy busy!

Almost every summer there is something major opening at DLR. Last year it was Star Tours and Little Mermaid. The year before was World of Color. If you wait until there is nothing new you will be waiting forever.

Excellent justification!!!:worship:

....and you will just HAVE to do another trip.....because Cars land wasn't open yet:goodvibes

If you want to avoid crowds with Cars Land then you'll have to wait until probably September or later. At that time, Cars Land is sure to still be busy, and something else may be under rehab anyway.

If your signature is accurate, I definitely vote you just go in May. If you'd been in the past year or so I might say wait for Cars Land since you wouldn't have much new to see.

I had the same dilemma when I started to look at dates. At first we were going to go first week of June. Then we thought about pushing that back to mid June for Carsland. But we ended up picking last week of May instead. The dates worked best for my and DWs schedule and we decided we would rather avoid the crowds of Carsland at the opening (DW hates when its super crowded). And DD is more into princesses then cars. So for us it wasnt a big deal to see Carsland. We want to make DL a yearly trip if possible so we can always see it next time when the newness has worn off and the crowds go back to normal. And there is always a chance we get lucky with a soft opening when we go in May.

True dat!

Similar situation here... can't decide between May - when found decent resort and air deals..... versus August. May... big plus is that it is sooner!

Carsland would be great, and we'd love to see it..... but not sure late August with blackout dates lifted will be a good thing. My other issue is entertainment, fireworks - seems more going on daily/nightly if wait till summer.

I have a slightly different perspective. We love going in May for the low crowds, cheap airfare, and that's when we've gone for a quick trip the last three years ... this year our work made it impossible to go anywhere until mid-June, (DH's, mine, and my mom's co-workers all decided that taking off late May and early June was a good idea ... grr) so Carsland it is!

So my suggestion would be, if you truly can't make up your mind, ask your boss what they'd prefer and score some great-employee points! :)

May isn't going to happen this year.....:sad1: After looking at the school calendar for DS, we realized out trip would be right in the middle of his state testing. Ugh!

We are now considering the last week of Sept....

School gets in the way of all sort of things. I'd just go mid summer, mid week, and plan to make good use of the time. It with little doubt will be busier, but Summer is always busy anyway.

Me again.....we are looking at shorter dates and really trying to make a May trip work! We are doing our best to minimize time away from school!

I am excited but I have never planned a Disney trip in such a short amount of time!

HoJo's isnt available for our dates. Is the Best Western Park Place Inn an okay place to stay? Probably won't have any time for the pool anyway which is one of the things we like at HoJo's. Carousel Inn is also available. Is BWPPI better than the Carousel Inn?

We are looking at 3 days in the parks and 1 day (Saturday) at Legoland.

Our DLR must do's:
Splash Mountain for DD as she is now tall enough!
World of Color for DH!
California Screamin for DS!
Splash Mountain with all 4 of us for the first time

And, it is going to be a surprise .... The kids have no idea!

...

I don't know if BWPPI in better than Carousel because we haven't stayed at Carousel, but we had a nice stay at BWPPI last summer, and would happily stay there again. Glad May worked out for you!

Best Western Park Place Inn is much better, IMO, and highly regarded as such. On trip advisor it usually falls in the top 10 in the area. Carousel near the middle.

From some of the recent articles/threads posted here, I've gotten the impression that there aren't going to be traditional soft openings for Carsland - not for the general public, anyway. I think they're keeping everything to the public locked down until opening day (or DCA's "grand re-opening" as they're calling it)
