Just booked our first trip to Disney with our 2.5 yo daughter!! I'm so excited, but now getting nervous about all of the planning and lists that I will be making :-) We are staying at ASMo. We are flying US airways, what is your opinion, do we need a carseat on the airplane?

Also is it a must to use a carseat on the shuttle bus to and from the parks/hotels??

Thank you for your help!!

Using a car seat on the plane is up to you, however it is not a requirement.

You cannot use the seat on the magical express or any of the Disney buses.

Hope you have a wonderful trip!

We are flying in 2 weeks with our 2.5 year old (and 6 year old). We plan to bring our carseat for her to use on the plane.

We used one when our ODD was 3 and it was great. Because she knew she needed to be buckled in - she stayed put! She actually slept most of our flight (it was an early am - this flight isn't) and she could see out the window better. The only issue is they can hit the seat in front of them easier and sometimes the tray won't sit flat (depends on the type of car seat).

Last time we used a Cosco Scenera (a convertible rear to FF) and it lifts them pretty high. This time we are using a Cosco High Back Booster (they actually are harnessed seats to 40 pounds and then a booster) because it is more upright and I hope the tray will work better.

I am also planning on bungee cording it upside down on our carry on suitcase to get through the airport.

I know it's not needed - but we never found the 5 minutes to install and uninstall was that big of a deal for MY comfort on the flight (no kid laying on me!!)

We do need a seat when we are down there for a few days so it is less of a hassle. But when we used it with ODD we were at an AI resort, we didn't use it on the bus, just put it in the cupboard and took it out for the flight home!

Yea, the plane is totally up to you. It's not required but could probably be argued that it is safer to use it. That said, we have never used one but I might going forward.

You can't use them on magical express or the resort buses. So, once you get off the plane they would be stored (under the bus, in the room) until your return flight.

Thanks for your information everyone. I wasn't sure of the rules regarding safety and if carseats are required. I don't think I'll be bringing one. I'm looking into the CARES harness for the plane. Thanks again!!

I much prefer checking it as cargo so I don't have to lug the thing through security. Most airlines check carseats complimentary for families, so there's no extra charge. I have to travel with so much extra baggage when with our 2yo it's nice to not have to worry about that one extra thing. I've noticed at 2 our daughter is far more interested in looking out the window than leaving her seat as well. Enjoy your trip! We are also taking our daughter for the first time (who will be 2.5 this summer). So exciting!

When we flew down 2 years ago, my DD was 2.5 and I used the CARES harness for her. I felt better knowing she was secure in the seat and it was so easy to install. I rented one off a lady on EBAY. She was wonderful and I had it mailed to my home about a week before our trip.

I went back and forth with this same question. In the end we decided not to bring it thank God because it wouldn't have even fit into the seat :confused3 and we didn't drive when we were there so it would have just been sitting in the room taking up space

I prefer not to bring a carseat, unless you are going to need it once you get there. For me, it is just one more thing to carry thru the airport and security. Unless your child really doesn't sit well on the plane and needs more than just a seatbelt, I say no.

For safety we prefer either a car seat or a CARES harness. We fly with three little ones and have managed just fine with either option. Like others have mentioned Disney transportation doesn't allow car seats.

We've never taken a car seat for our 5 yr old which has been 4x & our 2 yr old which has flown 2x. Can't use it on the buses & never wanted to carry extra thru the airport & it's always worked out for us with the kids not having their carseats, everyone is different though.

I do not know how large your child is but the harness would not fit our son at 5..we did car seats everywhere but WDW.
